Suggestion of UI Design Directions for Improving Usability of Large Digital Information Display

ABSTRACT
Background DID performing a variety of tasks in a state standing in front of a large screen in the process of using the device, the cognitive and physical burden is relatively large. These weakness of a device cause a continous problems in process of understanding information and exploring, and it reduce a practical effectiveness of DID. Purpose of this study is to seek the suitable direction of the UI design for environment of large DID interface.
Methods The study consists of understanding, case analysis and suggestion of improving directions. Based on the literature research, understand the characteristics of the interface environment and the concept of the large DID and then conducted a user survey, observations and interviews on the large DID that are installed in the city of Seoul. This study suggest improvement directions by analysing derived problems.
Result The problems were based on common issues of DID`s interface environment, limited visibility area and the operating area. Based on these issue, this study according to the process of interaction design suggested the improvement directions for future UI design to navigation, layout, UI components three steps.
Conclusion This study has the significance in that summarizes the various issues with the UI design of large DID. However because the suggested direction was not identified by the substantive contents verification. So the effectiveness of that is unclear. Therefore, in next study through the specific prototype development it should practices and refine its effectiveness.

Development of Textile Pattern Design and Fashion Cultural Products for Jeju Gosari Festival

ABSTRACT
Background Jeju-do holds Mt. Halla Pure Gosari Festival annually as local cultural contents in order to spread out the excellence of Jeju Gosari as specialized resources. Event hough various experience activities are progressed, actually there is no memorable fashion culture product for the image of Gosari Festival. Accordingly, this study aimed to develop a memorable fashion culture product representing Gosari Festival. For this purpose, based on the style and formative features of Jeju Gosari, the study developed a modern sense textile pattern applied fashion culture product. And the study demonstrated the possibility of use as local special resources of the developed textile design and fashion culture product.
Methods Textile patterning work was performed using Adobe CS5(Photoshop, Illustrator) and TexPro, a textile CAD program. After selecting Cheilanthes argentea (Gmel.)Kunze, Adiantum capillus-veneris L, Onychium japonicum(Thunb)Kunze and Adiantum capillus-veneris L which are representative in formative characteristics, textile patterns were developed using repetitive arrangement style of Proctors` diamond pattern and square pattern, a set layout method.
Result To figure out if it can be applied to fashion culture product, it was applied to various product line and design mapping was performed. Based on the results, bags and scarfs using DTP printed material (canvas and silk) with textile patterns selected according to the intention of design are produced and also t-shirts with motif, repeat and textile pattern inserted are produced as memorable fashion culture products.
Conclusion Such results will attract attention to the Jeju regional festival and play a guideline in developing various memorable fashion culture product development.

Practical use of Motion Graphic in Mobile Augmented Reality - Focused on Moving Typography Technique -

ABSTRACT
Background Augmented reality based on virtual space has become popular with the spread of smartphone and the overcoming a location limit thanks to the development of technology. Mobile media already stands on the center of social change. It is expected that mobile media will play an important role in the media society, thus this paper suggests the applications of motion graphic focused on moving typography technique that can provoke the interest and the flow of users, on the basis of research that can be applied to augmented reality contents design effectively.
Methods In order to make motion graphics for mobile applications, three areas of preceding researches include augmented reality, motion graphics, mobile media are analyzed and the basic analyzation form is established. Based on the form, mobile augmented reality application is designed and the possibilities of practical use will be suggested.
Result When the motion graphic for augmented reality is designed, these factors should be considered: three-dimensional location limits, presence and the characteristics of mobile media. Based on the findings, motion graphic with moving typography technique is applied to the process of mobile augmented reality content prototyping and the interface of prototype is improved through heuristic evaluation.
Conclusion Design for convergence media such as augmented reality has appeared with the change of the time. However, its design is based on the visual information, thus the design should be developed with considering graphic design`s language and theory as well as the characteristics of contemporary media. The result of this research is expected that it will effectively be used in the process of practical development through the designing application combines augmented reality and motion graphic. It will be able to redeem the area of design in the development of augmented reality contents.

Design Information Structure of Traffic Signs - Focused on Surveys of Korea and U.K. cases -

ABSTRACT
Background Functional facilities of road signs that provide destination guidance information to the operator using the roads are increasing in importance as a national infrastructure for moving people and goods.
Methods In South Korea, making the nomination and facilities Information center of the road system are the Information Systems street name. General concept and structure of the information system of road signs are to objectify the effectiveness of the first street name signs that are developed using the new design scheme, applied and cross-comparative analysis of the signs and similarity of the UK with a road information system. Individual countries sign environments and system design configurations including social background and made to apply information systems, methods of operation of the individual units of information elements to be analyzed.
Result Mutual corresponding sign information through a process that compares the components and operating systems Identify strengths and weaknesses and the difference between the efficiency of information communication systems of the two countries sign design system. Street name sign may be evaluated in the term switch operating method as guide way of providing spatial information to linear information to the driver at the same time. The city of South Korea and road conditions around the UK road signs with similar information system is being operated to reflect regional characteristics compared to the road system of common street name and route guidance information center.
Conclusion In the case of Korea, efficiency, system design feature of visual communication of operational convenience, but compared to the UK can be seen in the case of the United Kingdom has considered whether a more detailed and step-by-step process information sequentially. South Korea`s road signs are road information signs guiding systems in transition than in the United Kingdom may be recognized that effectiveness.

A Study on the Augmented Reality-based Experience Exhibition Immersion

ABSTRACT
Background The development of digital today has enabled a smooth interaction between people and materials and driven a change in exhibition from the display-based exhibition to the exhibition facilitating the active participation of visitors. Among the exhibition display media, in particular, augmented reality highly affects flow and presence in that it seamlessly combines the real world and virtual images. Thus, this study examined the concept of augmented reality and its major implementation techniques, and attempted to find an effective method for exhibition display.
Methods The concept and the major detailed displaying media of an augmented reality-based exhibition and its major implementation techniques were investigated and examined. Surveys and interviews were conducted to find the exhibition display methods that can increase flow by developing a hypothesis from the theories of experience factors and presence.
Result It was found that an augmented reality exhibition was highly and evenly evaluated in experience and presence than the general exhibition, positively affecting flow of visitors. In particular, a projection type display-based exhibition was highly evaluated in experience and presence by creating a factual exhibition environment, positively affecting flow.
Conclusion An effective method for exhibition display was derived through a case study and hypothesis analysis of the existing augmented reality. The paper is intended to be the basic material for the future exhibition planning of augmented reality, which is an effective display medium for experiencing and learning the virtual reality based on the context-awareness technique. Also, the paper aims to be an effective research material that can be actively used for the display planning and a new space for cultural experience by attracting the active participation and interest of family visitors.

The effect of Chinese consumers`perceived service quality and Korean fashion product quality on consumer satisfaction and repurchase intention - Based on Taobao buying service -

ABSTRACT
Background The buying service has received considerable intention in the past few years in China. Most people choose China`s biggest open market Taobao to purchase merchandise from abroad through buying service, however, dissatisfaction happens all the time. Therefore, this study aims to find out how perceived Korean fashion product quality, Taobao service quality and individual sellers influence on consumer satisfaction, and how this affects repurchase intentions of Chinese consumers in buying service.
Methods An online survey was conducted with consumers who have purchased Korean fashion products through Taobao buying service. Number of 204 responses were used for the final statistical analysis.
Result The results revealed that all four dimensions of Korean fashion product quality(aesthetic, usefulness, care, extrinsic), dimensions of Taobao`s service quality of website design, efficiency and responsiveness; seller`s service quality of webpage design, responsiveness have the significant impact on consumer satisfaction. Consumer satisfaction then has significant impact on repurchase intention. However, the efficiency of seller and the security of both Taobao and seller have no statistical significance in determining consumer satisfaction.
Conclusion This study suggests that to enhance consumer purchase intention, both Taobao and sellers should improve their service quality. Moreover, Korean fashion brands which already or decided to enter the Chinese market should develop marketing strategies to better address the quality of products.

Revisiting the Concept of Advertising Creativity and Implications for Research and Education

ABSTRACT
Background Despite of a general consensus on the important role of creativity in advertising creativity, there is a lack of understanding of its working definition and underlying factors. The paper intends to reexamine advertising creativity concept by reviewing relevant studies and to draw practice and research implications.
Methods This paper is basically an exploratory study based on the literature of various fields with relevant topics of brand equity marketing, psychology and advertising itself.
Result The relationship among advertising creativity, media and brand equity is discussed. The understanding of the elements of advertising creativity and its underlying dynamics are still at large with a little academic agreement on the issues that have been pending for a couple of decades.
Conclusion Research implications are presented in the final chapter. Research endeavor is called on to develop better understanding of the advertising creativity, in both terms of effective on the job education and academic research.

Usability Testing of Oral Health Education Applications - Based on a Comparison of Dentify and Toothflix -

Background In recent years, health conditions have become the most commonly searched content for smartphone users. Moreover, digital health information about prevention and self-care will be in great demand in the near future. Although researchers from the domains of education, information technology, and dentistry have examined digital oral health education, their studies have lacked emphasis on user experience. In this study, we aimed to review and examine usability issues of commercially available oral health education apps. Afterward, we presented design guidelines for these applications.
Methods First, we reviewed existing smartphone applications for oral health education and selected two accredited apps; Dentify and Toothflix. Second, for usability testing of these two apps, we adopted a heuristic evaluation system: creating usability checklists based on Peter Morville`s User Experience Honeycomb. Then, we conducted usability testing and performed in-depth interviews with dentists and UX design experts.
Result We analyzed the results from the usability checklists using radar charts. Then, usability issues were categorized and summarized into oral health contents and four planes based on Jesse Garrett`s elements of user experience: the scope plane, the structure plane, skeleton plane, and surface plane.
Conclusion In addition, we`ve suggested revisionary design guidelines in usability for these two apps; first, Dentify and Toothflix need to have a “Search” option. Second, the apps should incorporate multi-information channels, such as, text, images, videos, and audio. Third, these apps should require as little as possible cognitive burdens for users.

Background For the customized industry research of Seoul local industry specialization Project, Seoul Women`s University (the college) and Seongsu-Dong (the local industry) collaborated to strengthen the technical skills of handmade shoes for the advancement and development of new products. Despite many numbers of contractors and workers, handmade shoes area of Seongsu-dong is lacking design talents. With the advanced production technology of local industry, the infrastructure of the College of Art and Design leverages to develop a competitive handmade shoes that could grow together in the fashion industry. School research team has provided and developed surface designs with colors that reflect the current fashion trends for the production. In addition, medical consultation were proceeded as efforts to increase the added value to a new shoe brand, and various tests including antibacterial, odor, germ, and friction were also proceeded to meet the business purpose of the local economy vitalizations
Methods Yeonhwamun, the reflection of Korean traditional pattern, was applied to handmade shoes, reflecting S/S 2016 trend color in consideration of fashion cycle and sales at the time of the production. Through specialized survey agency in demographical approach, we would like to research and analyze on satisfaction and preference of surface designs and shapes of shoes. Responses from men and women in age range from 20s to 50s who were commissioned by a professional survey organization, will enable us to specifically predict the future sales potential through the design prototype.
Result According to the result of the surface design preferences on shoes survey, Design # 2 (see Table 1) received the highest response, which reflects the trend color of 2016, yet colors are still reliable and unique. Colors are also not affected by seasons, and at the same time patterns retain tradition. In addition, Slip-on #2 (See Table 3) coated with surface design #2 received the highest score among the preference and satisfaction survey, in which 54% of men favored, compare to 46% of women. In detail rating, 19% of women in 20s favored the design the most. In terms of shape of shoes, this slip-on shoes record the highest, compare to high -heels pumps, which the result reflecting the current fashion trends.
Conclusion Through this research, we could expect further development and application of the textile design according to user`s preference and purpose by proposing aesthetic textile designs with a great depth of expression. In addition, this study is meant to be the cornerstone to contribute to the spread of handmade shoes industry, and further increase sales growth & workforce number (including design talents) of the local economy which is in poor condition at the moment. Through the analysis of surface pattern and footwear design research prior to the development of the finished product, we see the potential of continuation of this collaborative project with the school and the industry.
In addition, in the following research, we expect to see additional complements on further product developments based on the result of preference and satisfaction research seen above, along with in-depth research including tests such as, color fastness, friction, anti-bacterial odor and germ, through professional medical consultation. Furthermore, we look forward to lay the cornerstone of design innovation of handmade shoes for the promotion of the local industry through the further research in the future.

The Corelation between of Cosmetology Worker`s Self Efficacy, Professional Ethics, and Job Satisfaction with Customer Orientation

Background This study is to grasp a structural relation between of cosmetology worker`s self efficacy, professional ethics, and job satisfaction with customer orientation.
Methods A survey of 518 cosmetology workers who are over 20 years old of both genders in Seoul, Busan, Daegu and Gyeongbuk was taken about this research. The data analysis was performed through the programs such as AMOS 22.0 and IBM SPSS 22.0 for Windows.
Result Cosmetology worker`s self efficacy, professional ethics, and job satisfaction have a direct impact on customer orientation. Self efficacy and professional ethics influence directly on one`s job satisfaction. Self efficacy influences directly on one`s professional ethics. Self efficacy influences indirectly on one`s job satisfaction and customer orientation through professional ethics. Self efficacy influences indirectly on customer orientation through one`s job satisfaction.
Conclusion Cosmetology worker`s self efficacy, professional ethics, and job satisfaction have a very important relationship with customer orientation. And to conclude, the worker should forward one`s own professional ethics, job satisfaction with self efficacy. Customers will continue to grow with a qualitative improvement of worker`s customer orientation. And profits of cosmetology business will also increase with satisfied customers.
