ABSTRACT
The development of information and communication technology made it possible that the information be more diverse and promptly delivered with mobility. However, the outgrowing numbers of media kinds and the complexity of the media usage made the communication of information more difficult. The importance of navigational design is taken into account as it helps the user search for information while moving around in the space within the media.
This work analyzes different types of navigation according to the characteristics of media. The study focuses on information structure and navigational design of the media as they help the users effectively search for needed information.
This paper first explores the characteristics of media. Then it examines the concept of navigation and its distinguishing features based on the content and the device. Navigation types sorted through different characteristics of media are navigations in linear structure and nonlinear structure, and navigations in horizontal selection and cascading selection. Information structure and navigational design is analyzed according to the sorted navigation types. The information structures and the navigation paths for each navigation types are visualized based upon J. Bertin`s Data Relational Structure and the elements of navigational design are examined through examples of different media design.
Navigational design in the context of information structure and media characteristics, will help with user`s information search process and enhance efficient information communication.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to provide for basic data useful to the production management of apparel firms and manufactures. The questionnaires were administered to 106 production experts of apparel firms and manufactures in Seoul and Kyung-gi region. Furthermore, data were analyzed by descriptive statistics.
The conclusions of this study are as follows;
1. The production experts of apparel firms and manufactures become longer the period of service, the reduction of workers under 30 has been appeared begin aging a long time ago. Self-manufacturing is also reduced by an increment of a finished products buying-in method but the rate of a manufacturer`s production increased. Inferior of products were brought about the defect of raw and subsidiary material and was happened in the process of production.
2. The hardship of apparel firms included the pressing of clothing, the lack of skill, rate of inferiority, production management, the delay of delivery time and so on. The standard for contractor selection was based on quality and production capacity, and the claim imposed on a defect of products and the delay of delivery.
3. The production system of manufactures took mostly the “line system” and combination of “fair and line system.” The hardship of manufactures was exposed by a shortage of skilled workers and poor equipments. Thus, there has been a request to the manager apparel firm to consistency of working direction, substantial technical guidance, and concrete inspection standard. For improvement of productivity, it was necessary for the manufactures to have retention of technicians, execution of inspection under working as well as process analysis .

A Study on Minimalistic Symbolism and Deconstructive Experimentalism as Iconographic Entities
|
신석규 Shin Seok-kyu |
JEWNR 25(0) 35-50, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
In the 21st Century, the cultural environment along with the appearance of digital mediums brought upon great change and ameliorated the quality of images in visual communication. The symbol of identity design in the past showed a tendency to be simplified in terms of form. However, with the advent of digital mediums, various symbols of expressions appear especially the experimental characteristics of a deconstructive form, representing a free use of lines and forms to express a post signifiante, post-form, and post-structural type of expression. The two types of tendencies minimizes the artistic techniques and dramatization of the artistic expression, and expresses only the bare necessities as the essence of an object, and realizes true reality through this type of minimalism and provides a new perspective with a experimental yet deconstructive method. As a result, each corresponding form becomes conceptualized, and each classification becomes increasingly structured.
The symbol of identity design can be classified by the minimalistic tendencies of the pure expression of absolute form, the expression of the essentials, the repetition of forms of identity, and the expression of what substantiates form. The deconstructive experimentation can be hierarchically classified into post-signifiante forms, post-form, and post structures, which births a more elaborate and intricate classification system. Each level of classification integrates the form of minimalism and the Derrida deconstructive composition principles, with the interpretation of the researcher to establish meaning and concept. The tools used to analyze, and classify the symbols expressed both domestically and internationally by type are the pie positioning maps, along with the positioning maps that implement an indexed and gauged standard. Through this type of systematic classification we are able to conclude that the symbols expressed with the tendencies of minimalism needto be simplified for the purpose of efficient expression and symbolism, while at the same time, as a corresponding concept, an experimental deconstructive symbol must reveal an affinity to reject conventional framework to reveal a variety of expressions while realistically being able to communicate with the expansion of analysis and meaning, and the freedom of form, not the distortion of the essence of what is to be expressed. Whatever the symbol may be designated to express, the symbol must retain essential vitality, and must be efficiently expressed to the desired recipient, while providing a platform for liberal analysis during the processes of achieving expression of the form in question.
In conclusion, the minimalistic simplification, the concept of deconstructive experimentation, and hierarchic classification can recapitulate a creative methodology of identity systems that correspond to the digital age of today.

ABSTRACT
Even though the importance of design has continuously highlighted, many companies still recognize design as a additional factor to the management. This shows the same in design service. Therefore, several design services introduced in this case will help companies to enhance their competitiveness. In this section, I considered what design service collaboration model of the hospital, the office environments, etc, combining in various fields is and what effect it has. Though there are limits, Return on Design Investment, measurement of changes in consumer behavior and the proposal of design service industry measurement as the method of design service measurement will promote companies to introduce design service as important factors. In addition to these efforts, to settle design service, companies & the government (policy) should indicate and spread design service collaboration model. Although this study has significance, it has several limitations. First, this study is focused on several cases and proposals of companies & the government (policy). Second, in the near future, this study needs to be supplemented by analyzing what effects design service provides through combing various systems of design service evaluation and sample companies.

A Power-theoretical Approach to Meaning-making of the Design Profession A Case Study of the Design Profession in the Design Museum London
|
손주영 Sohn Joo-young |
JEWNR 25(0) 73-82, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to examine socio-cultural and political interventions in meaning-making by the design profession by investigating members of that profession as an audience in a design museum. Professional meaning-making in this study is addressed from the viewpoint of theoretical understandings of the way in which the design profession makes meaning and gains knowledge. In particular, the study examines the interventions embedded in professional meaning-making by employing three of Bourdieu`s concepts, namely, `field`, `habitus`, and `practice`. In doing so, it suggests why the world of design and relevant institutions including design museums are so closed and private, and showed some ways in which meanings differ according to social position, emphasizing the notion of social class divisions in structuring meanings. However, this power-theoretical approach to meaning-making is criticized for seeing people as passive recipients of knowledge and as differentiated agendas rather than active producers. The latter part of this article will, therefore, investigate the limitations of theories of practice, which provide links between the field and the formation of meaning-making through the field.

ABSTRACT
Since its birth in China, the `Haechi` has evolved through different form and meaning in Korea and Japan. In Korea, a high number of Haechi can be found around Seoul. They are spread out through Chosun palace, public areas, residential areas, commercial areas, and throughout the outskirts of Seoul.
The Haechi statues are concentrated around Chongro-gu and Chung-gu which is the center of Seoul. They are made of granite, greatly vary in sizes, and have two main postures of crouching and fully posed. Defining forms are slightly different with each type of Haechi, but there are several basic characteristics. They each possess horns, bells around the neck, and are embroidered with patterns such as circles, wings, and spirals. Overall, the Korean Haechi shows a smooth round form. Socially, the Haechi represents fire protector, guardian, justice, and good luck.
In China, Haechi has developed throughout the social class of Ming and Chung dynasty. Currently, the lion has taken place of the Haechi in representing as guardian, fire protector, and good fortune. In Japan, Haechi has evloved into a statue that looks halfway between a lion and dog is called `Ko-ma-i-nu`, and it`s known as a guardian of a temple.
It is evident that each country`s Haechi contain various meanings and attributes. Therefore, it is crucial that we actively develop and apply unique characteristics of the Haechi of Seoul.

|
양정훈 Yang Jung-hun |
JEWNR 25(0) 99-111, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
Much progress has been made in unification education which moves toward a significantly greater activation. However, due to the technical development of electronics and communications, the change in educational methods, whether direct or indirect, is required. Up to now, the Unification Education hasn`t been focused on collecting various views and opinions of our society, but focused on the distorted mechanism of deciding the contents of education in a one-way manner. In other words, the government-driven Unification Education had been more concerned about promoting and spreading the existing ideology and regime, straying from the contents of education gaining the people`s sympathy.
It may be effective for the older generation who has been familiar with cramming method of education, but it becomes less effective for the protagonist of the modern communication-oriented society who will take charge of the future. As times change, the future education will be in the process of being transformed into a more generalized online education. E-learning is likely to gain more and more importance in the upcoming years as a new method of Unification Education in cyberspace will replace the conventional face-to-face education. E-learning-assisted Unification Education, in particular, still has a lot of room for further development.
Furthermore, in preparation for sudden unification of Korea due to unexpected developments in the North, a new approach, e-learning-assisted Unification Education utilizing internet content, which is totally different from the conventional methods of Unification Education and will enable the various layers of people to gain free access to understanding and approach for unification in preparation for the future situation, is required now more than ever.
