ABSTRACT
Most researches related to digital architectures have been more focused on formal and stylistic concerns than on practical constructions mainly because of the very limited number of realized construction. But demands for researches linking digital technology and architectural production are more required than before in accordance with advancing digital technology and increasing realization. Thus, study was focused to analyze characteristics of digital tectonics of free-form structures designed through digital processes. The results of the study are as follows;
1) Types of digital fabrications applied to constructing free-form structures - composed of surface-covering members and structural members - are basically accomplished with digital pre-fabrication methods rather than on-site constructions.
2) Lisas Iwamoto`s five types of digital fabrications - sectioning, tessellating, folding, contouring, and forming - can be divided into two groups such as an assembling and a monocoque types, based on degree of requirement of connecting procedure on site.
3) `Sectioning` and `folding` have more structural strength while `contouring` and `forming` are more expressive. Those five types of fabrications can be used solely on its own or in any multiple combinations.

ABSTRACT
In Modern days when surrealistic images have been still used as ways of expressing this society and when an anti-art concept resisting against existing beauty balance and conventional order made by unconsciousness have had influence on patterns, pattern design itself has been transformed or applied as an inspiration for the creation of modern image and become a turning point for the new ideas.
Especially in 1930s, when surrealism movement reached its highest peak, many pattern artists pursued the compromise between geometric and non-geometric patterns and showed lots of interest in various science fields with appearance of living creature`s figures. Moreover, since our world pursues improvement of standard of living and high-quality value that satisfies consumers` individuality, diversity and sensibility, creative expression through new materials and diverse experiments in the field of pattern art is becoming a crucial aspect in contemporary art.
Thus this dissertation tries to analyze the structure which was made by transformation of objects and give salience to the principle of protruded, visual combination structure in Escher`s patterns.
The research on Escher`s transformation works demonstrates that his works displayed circular extremity structure, contour of double structure, reflective transformation structure, and impossible structure made by strange rings and Penrose Tiling. This formational analysis tells us that the stream of surrealistic art has been changed a lot in the process of motifs transformation and the surrealistic characteristics represent contemporary characters through heterogeneous combination of conflicting objects, paradoxical contradiction, material change, destruction of objects, and unrealistic objects by distorted optical illusion, being out of the laws of perspective which is the main principle of modern viewpoints.
This dissertation is aimed at developing diverse techniques to make products easily, applying the traits of these patterns into digital printing technology in the future pattern industry. This study also aims to overcome the limit of experience and develop contemporary patterns which are harmonizing with potential awareness in unconsciousness and broadening ways of looking the logical, present reality.

JEWNR 25(0) 247-256, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
Each Automobile company has its own unique and distinct design process. Majority of automobile companies exercise clay modeling design process by using 2 dimensional sketch, tape drawing, and CAD. This design process can find innovational design trend and new automobile design elements by allowing many quality assurance processes which consume great deal of engineering and testing time.
Unlikely clay modeling design process, Italdesign`s design process could dramatically reduce engineering and quality assurance time by using Epowood Resin or Plaster modeling through 1/10 scale drawing design process. This is one of the core Italia`s carrozzeria design process. By using this innovation design process, highly developed automobile design can be quickly and effectively demonstrated to clients within very short amount of time. Unlikely regular design sketch, Epowood Resin or Plaster is like a multi-dimensional design, so it allows designers to exam and modify the design very quickly. Handling and caring for Epowood Resin or Plaster is much durable and easy. Epowood Resin or Plaster model can be stored and kept for much longer duration than clay model and could minimize the risk of damaging the design during transfer. Also it is highly compatible in price. In addition, Epowood Resin or Plaster can be used with CAD which using the current design process without training designers or changing process.
This study is for finding the effective way to make model through Italdesign`s 1/10 scale drawing design process.

ABSTRACT
In modern society, corporations perform various kinds of activities for communication and convey their messages to consumers through their products and services making the most of multiple media and fragmented advertising strategies, and through domestic and foreign activities. Corporations use promotion and PR, CI and advertisements for communication, with which they intend to build up favorable images on themselves. The corporate image ad campaign started out of social responsibility and a sense of ethics. Products ads of corporations primarily aim at profit seeking, while corporate ads intend to establish and accumulate trust and favorable images in the long term,
which are considered as intangible assets. This study will analyze the current status of corporate image ads and examine semiological signification in a comparative and analytic way, mainly focusing on those of Samsung, LG, SK, who hold greater part of all image ads. As a consequence of the recent global economic recession, which affected even the messages of image ads, the appearance of ads that are attempting to inspire hopes for tomorrow despite economical difficulties, prevails like a phenomenon. Samsung`s ads were about self-reflection, promise and preparation for tomorrow, and SK carried positive and future-oriented messages for tomorrow`s happiness. LG, through its notable film series ads along with `I Love you, LG` song, expressed its will to transform the value of living into that of art. Samsung making its theme of image ads `expectation` about future, LG `love`, SK `happiness` of customers, it was not difficult to find out that through those themes they all attempted to convey the philosophy and the vision of each corporation, and their promise to customers and trust at the same time. As mentioned above, it was seen that companies are trying to persuade the public to develop an amicable attitude toward them through corporate image ad campaigns and that they are performing their roles as companies with social and ethical responsibility, too.
I hope this comparative study on signification analysis would be of help for designing new strategies of corporate image ads as a precedent case, and look forward to seeing further studies on corporate image ads examined from diverse point of views.

ABSTRACT
This study analyses costumes in the film, "Sex & the City," which is adapted from one of the best hit American dramas also titled as "Sex and the City." This drama had a significant impact on American popular culture revealing a variety of fashion styles, including significant costume presence of the four main actresses. A bibliographical research was carried out based on bibliographical data and magazines, and also through photographic data and Internet sites.
This study is also to examine the definition and the function of movie costumes. The function of a film was categorized into symbolic and fashion creations, and movie costumes into comedy, music and science fiction costumes as well as costumes periodically. In addition, the fashion trends of spring, summer, fall and winter in 2008 were analyzed as well as representative designs of leading designers in New York, plot and background of the movie, personalities and costumes of the four actresses in the film, "Sex and the City." Finally, to overcome unclear representation of actresses` personalities and characteristics in the movie, this study designed and produced costumes based on the fashion trend of New York in 2008 that can reinterpret the qualities of the actresses. Firstly, of all the characters` costumes, Carry`s outfits are of a free style design, characteristic of a freelancer, further imbued with New York`s sophistication and color. Carry therefore is seen as the trendiest of the four characters. Secondly, Samanda`s costume represents her sexuality and focuses on presenting her own passionate character. Next, Charlotte`s costume features an elegant and graceful fashion style, which illustrates well her feminine charm, with a focus on luxury and femininity. Lastly, Miranda`s costume style represents an intellectual and sophisticated design, with consideration given to her profession as a lawyer.
Through this study, the significance of costumes in a film was revealed as they not only portray the mood of the film but also contribute to creation of many trends. Costumes work as representing characters and through looking into the New York fashion trend and putting an emphasis on the importance of clothing, movie costumes provide a comprehensive view as they lead to a potential growth of film costume design.
