A Study on the Production Management of Apparel Firms and Manufactures

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide for basic data useful to the production management of apparel firms and manufactures. The questionnaires were administered to 106 production experts of apparel firms and manufactures in Seoul and Kyung-gi region. Furthermore, data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The conclusions of this study are as follows; 1. The production experts of apparel firms and manufactures become longer the period of service, the reduction of workers under 30 has been appeared begin aging a long time ago. Self-manufacturing is also reduced by an increment of a finished products buying-in method but the rate of a manufacturer`s production increased. Inferior of products were brought about the defect of raw and subsidiary material and was happened in the process of production. 2. The hardship of apparel firms included the pressing of clothing, the lack of skill, rate of inferiority, production management, the delay of delivery time and so on. The standard for contractor selection was based on quality and production capacity, and the claim imposed on a defect of products and the delay of delivery. 3. The production system of manufactures took mostly the “line system” and combination of “fair and line system.” The hardship of manufactures was exposed by a shortage of skilled workers and poor equipments. Thus, there has been a request to the manager apparel firm to consistency of working direction, substantial technical guidance, and concrete inspection standard. For improvement of productivity, it was necessary for the manufactures to have retention of technicians, execution of inspection under working as well as process analysis .
