An Analysis on Domestic and International Research Papers and Patents of Clothing Products to Improve Functionality of the Clothing for the Disabled in Wheelchairs

ABSTRACT
This study is a basic research to develop off-the-rack clothes for the disabled in wheelchairs, analyzing the reality and research cases focusing on the domestic and international clothing products for the disabled in wheelchairs. Although there is the only Korean clothing shopping website for the disabled in wheelchairs, named `My-Rio`, it has limitation in repair and alteration of the products. In overseas cases, such clothing products have been developed in order of gender from male to female to unisex. In terms of the characteristics by item, the products have been developed in order of size, esthetic elements and functionality. Among the items, pants are found to be developed the most at 60.2% in bottoms. The domestic researches on clothing development have been continued with 33 research papers in Korea compared to four papers in foreign countries. However, Korea has yet to have direct sales markets while overseas countries have robust sales markets despite a small number of research cases on the subject. Looking at the patents, all 11 domestic patent products mostly focused on mobility while all seven overseas patent products were developedmainly for detachable convenience.
As a result, the analysis on the clothing shopping website indicates the need for domestic online and offline markets for the disabled in wheelchairs. The result of the analysis in this paper showed the reality of clothing development for the disabled in wheelchairs and the design and functionality of the clothing that reflects the physical attributes of the disabled in wheelchair. This will be the foundation of development and commercialization of the clothing for the disabled in wheelchair, and be the basic data to develop a large-scale production system for the disabled in wheelchair in the future.

Costumes and Mythical Characteristics of the Female Heroic Character Appearing in Alice in Wonderland

ABSTRACT
The universal nature of myth is actively utilized in fantasy movie. This study is aimed at examining the characteristics of the movie costumes that the female heroic character wears in the film, Alice in Wonderland, which employs the narrative structure of the hero myth and receives much attention for movie costumes. For this purpose, the author investigates the narrative structure of the hero myth presented by Joseph Campbell and Christopher Vogler, examines the narrative structure of hero myth reflected in Alice in Wonderland, and analyzes the movie costumes of the character, Alice, in the film. According to the research, Alice displays the typical characteristics of the hero archetype who receives a call to undertake an adventurous journey, experiences ordeal along the way, and finally accomplishes the mission. However, Alice also shows a distinction from male heroes in that the desires in reality are fulfilled in an indirect way through her role of a female warrior in the "underland". The costumes of Alice adopt the design elements that represent typical attributes of an archetype hero and masculinity. By doing so, her movie outfits display the character`s intrinsic nature as a female heroic figure who overcomes the gender notions of the time and achieves self-realization. Accordingly, Alice`s image shifts from that of a feminine and disordered image to an androgynous and stable one.

Impacts of Photographic Lighting Technique on Determination of Makeup and Beauty Image - Focusing on the Advertisements of Fashion, Cosmetics and Editorial Beauty Photographs Published in Fashion Magazines -

ABSTRACT
As a study on the impact of the photographic lighting technique on the makeup and the beauty image, in this article, the theoretical background on the effects of the makeup and the beauty image by the photographic lighting technique was examined through the literature review and the case analysis, and the outcomes that photographed the models using the different lighting techniques after making up them directly in the studio were presented as the empirical study together with the application cases represented through the fashion magazines such as Vogue, Bazaar, Allure, and Marie Claire in Korean version from 2010 to 2013. Since it is hard to maximize the product characteristics of the specific cosmetic brand and to complete the good outcome by producing the beauty image in the pictorial images effectively only with the makeup, the correlation of the beauty image, which varies by the lighting technique, with the lighting technique was analyzed focusing on the photographing and application cases according to the preceding studies on the lighting techniques, which can maximize the makeup effects and the literature reviews.
The results of this study are as follows. First, it was observed that determining the size and the location of main lighting is important to maximize the makeup effects by the characteristics of the cosmetics. Second, it was observed that in the beauty image photographing, which represents the soft and clean, the lighting technique with mild contrast and front lighting is mostly used. Third, it was observed that when the intelligent image with cubic effect is desired by expressing the color of the color cosmetics accurately and clearly, the side light was mainly used by utilizing strobe. Fourth, it was observed that in the cosmetics advertisement, the lighting technique with strong back light and the color temperature has been used locally because of its the aspects that makes feel rigid and the color reproduction is not easy. The author hope that such results would be used in the beauty industry, which uses the lighting, and expects that the active researches would be made not only with the fashion magazine but also with the media area.

A Study on the Change in Facade Color Scheme Type and Pattern of Apartment Houses - Focused on Northwest Gyunggi-do -

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to extract changes and characteristics of scheme type and pattern through analysis of facade color of apartment houses constructed in the last twenty years and to suggest direction of color planning for harmonious landscape.
The results of the analysis were as follows. Partly coloration of scheme type mostly showed in period I, mass and stylobate scheme type was adopted gradually thereafter. Vertical pattern of face composition were used the most in period I, since then it were used constantly. Horizontal pattern and gradation technique of scheme pattern increased remarkably in period IV. Graphic technique was universally used in period II and III, but application of it decreased, whereas relieve pattern of accent technique was actively applicable in period IV. Overall changes in facade color scheme type and pattern of apartment houses are reflecting diversity and complexity of plan and elevation at a pace by change paradigm in planning and designing.
Therefore, it suggest refined and daring innovation of environmental color planning from passive color planning that only cast off primary color use. And environmental color planning has to be considered proper needs in urban distant view, medium range view of street space, close range view of living space in housing block. Also it has to be multidisciplinary approached by integrated systemic urban design.

Lifestyle Segmentation of Smartphone Users and Its Impact on the Usage of Newspaper Applications and Attitude Toward Advertising

In 2008, there were just 800,000 domestic smartphone subscribers. But this number increased to 20 million by Sep. 2011, and exploded to 42.32 million in 2012. The widespread emergence of smartphones and tablet PCs as a new mobile medium has not only brought about the development of ubiquitous wireless internet technology but has also triggered a fundamental change in the paradigm. In addition, the contemporary business environment and advertising market are awash with a number of changes and opportunities.
The study shows three findings. First, the smartphone users are classified into three types of group depending on their lifestyle: `a social enjoyment oriented group`, `a mobility trend oriented group`, and `a family success focused group. Second, the study on the motivation behind the use of news apps provides a practical strategy to boost news app development and advertising. Third, the motivation for the use of the news app in each lifestyle group was strong in general, which may convince newspaper businesses to find opportunities in the smartphone media market by developing news apps. Fourth, the study shows that the attitude toward news app advertising is generally below average, and that the difference by cluster is significant, raising the need to develop an ad strategy that is fine-tuned to the group type. Fifth, as a result of examining attitude toward news app advertising based on the motivation behind the use of news apps, it was found that all motivations other than information have a positive effect on the attitude toward advertising. This suggests that user satisfaction with the general use of news apps may have a positive impact on the attitude toward news app advertising.

A Study on the Evaluation Method of SNS`s Service Design for Its Improvement

ABSTRACT
The number of SNS users is likely to increase rapidly in the future. This research is to see is how to improve evaluation methods of SNS`s service design by analyzing the users` responses in a survey. Among many SNS services, Kakao Talk, Facebook, and Band are chosen to find, through a positive analysis, effective evaluation methods. Hopefully the evaluation methods can suggest how to make SNS`s service design better.
The results of the research are as follows: First, in the area of interface, Kakao Talk`s average score is 3.80 which is considerably higher than those of Facebook(3.25) and Band(2.99). Probably it is because Kakao Talk has an advantage in treating emotional relations among people, such as making friends, chatting, closing unwanted relations, giving gifts and permitting. Second, in terms of user rules the levels of users` satisfaction is as follows: Kakao Talk(3.80), Facebook(3.13), Band(3.02). Similarly, Kakao Talk socres best in the area of user convenience. So, the factors may account for why Kakao Talk can be successful in a short period of time and how it can attract many users. Third, in light of visual composition, Kakao Talk also scores best(3.55), but Facebook(3.51) and Band(3.24) are not very far behind. It seems that SNS users are not very sensitive to the services`visual composition.

A Study on the Characteristics of the Jeju Traditional Style of Fur or Leather Clothes

Jeju has unique features in terms of geographical, natural, social and cultural environment, different from those of the mainland. Instead of farming fibrous materials, the inhabitants residing along the mid mountains raised cattle or horses, to study Jeju` style of clothes of fur or leathers, literature and actual proofs study and interviews were implemented. decoration and materials by using the remains, revealing the corelation between Jeju.
Firstly, the style of Jeju`s traditional fur or leather clothes included various needle work such as stitching by bamboo needles which was one of the unique needle works existing only in Jeju. This needle work was used for clothes of cow leather to protect pain when wearing them. Secondly, decorative techniques such as patchwork, decorative saddle stitching, a nose pendant, patch, twist, cutting and stamping were used in Korea traditional fur and leather garments. These decorative techniques are not colorful but show us beauty of decoration of Jeju in the process of designing Jeju functional clothes. Thirdly, The material used in Jeju traditional leather and fur garments came from cattle and wild animal such as roe deer, cows, dogs, badgers, horses, calves etc. This material were used in garments without processing. The materials were apporiately used in Jeju, considering both advantages and disadvantages of material. Based on the results ofa follow-up study or research in a variety of leather and fur, felt, and take advantage of attempting to fashion the development of cultural products.

Study on Color Images of Korean Milk Package - Focusing Standard and Organic Milks -

ABSTRACT
This study reviews the differentiation strategy on the growth trend of organic milks against standard milks by analyzing differences of color characteristics of standard and organic milks of Korean dairy companies. Seven dairy companies (Kokkuk Dairy, Namyang Dairy, Dongwon Dairy Food, Maeil Dairy, Samyang Foods, Yonsei University Milk, Pasteur) selling both standard and organic milks are selected for this study`s subjects. The analysis result shows that, first, the frequency of B color is the highest and definitive colors in high chroma tones are appeared on standard milk packages. In the meanwhile, on organic milk packages, YG and O colors show higher frequency while natural and comfort feelings are expressed with colors in low chroma tones. Second, in IRI image scale, standard and organic milks are positioned at the common point on the Y axis, but show opposing result on the X axis. This result shows that color characteristics of packages for Korean dairy company`s standard and organic milks are clearly separated. This study will become an useful material to analyze the emotional strategy on existing package colors for Korean dairy companies before introducing new products.

The influence of Ukiyoe on the works of Aubrey Beardsley

In the late 19th century, the formation of new social classes and changes in production methods after the Industrial Revolution influenced art and design. A number of artists made various attempts to change the ways of creating works of art accordingly. One of the phenomena that affected those changes was `Japonism`.
The biggest factor in setting the trend of enthusiastic following of Japanese style, Japonism, was `Ukiyoe`, multicolored woodcuts that prospered in the Edo period. Ukiyoe was created under the influence of the emergence of citizens and popular culture in the Edo period. It was characterized by both oriental style of molding expression and an elaborate division of labor that was required for woodcut engravings. The expression method of emphasizing curved lines, the combination of flat surfaces composed of dramatically contrasted features, the inclusion of decorating elements to depict intense images, and the public favored themes provided Western artists in modern age with clues for a new style which they had never encountered before.
Aubrey Beardsley who was hugely influential in the creation of a design style in the early modern age was one of the artists inspired by Ukiyoe. He collected Ukiyoe and tried to incorporate it into his illustrations. His works show the influences of Ukiyoe in terms of expressive qualities including smooth curved lines, the sharp contrast of black and white flat surfaces, exotic and splendid decorations and of content characteristic such as daring portrayals of sexual love and grotesque, frightening images.
This study sought to illuminate the influences of Ukiyoe on Beardsley`s works by analyzing his major illustrations. Based on this, the present research looked into the influences of Orientalism on the formation of modern design.
