ABSTRACT
This study is to develop Public Relations campaign goods for the endangered Manchurian Black Bears of Jiri Mountain. This study belongs to the third phase of the project. The P.I (Project Identity) was developed symbolically and a representative cartoon character was designed through the first and second phases respectively. The objective of this study is to induce people to be interested in and to participate in endangered species activism directly and indirectly by developing useful products from previous phases. A product portfolio is suggested by considering P.R. strategies. Design factors from the first and second phases are utilized. Depending on the nature of the items, some products are designed by emphasizing P.I images and some are designed mainly with cartoon character images. To select final product design reflecting the target user`s preferences, one thousand subjects responds to a questionnaire. Through the analysis of the questionnaire, the final products are selected and designed by assigning products appropriately for the product portfolio in order to effectively, strategically, and simultaneously promote the protection and restoration of the Manchurian Black Bear.

JEWNR 23(0) 17-31, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
Design management is a great revitalized field created to meet new changes to the period and the market since 1990s. The purpose of this study was to empirically analyze the relations between the factors influencing design management and corporate management performance. For that purpose, the investigator explored the factors affecting design management and tested the hypotheses about the relations between those factors and management performance through empirical analysis. The two major findings are as follows:
First, as for the relations between the factors influencing design management and customer satisfaction, "design workforce," "Design policies and strategies" and "design investment" resulted in statistical significance, but "design organization" and "design manager" did not. As a result, the hypothesis that the factors influencing design management would have impacts on customer satisfaction was partially supported. Customer satisfaction was most affected by "design policies and strategies," which was followed by "design workforce" and "design investment" in the order.
And secondly, as for the relations between the factors influencing design management and market share, "design organization," "design workforce," "design policies and strategies" and "design investment" showed statistical significance, but "design manager" did not. As a result, the hypothesis that the factors influencing design management would have impacts on market share was partially supported. Market share was most affected by "design investment," which was followed by "design policies and strategies," "design workforce" and "design organization" in the order.
The two conclusions indicate that "design policies and strategies" have the biggest effects on customer satisfaction and "design investment" on market share. Those results have the following implications: ① they can provide useful information to companies that try to introduce design management and vitalize it; and ② they can serve as a guideline when companies set up strategies of using design management as a means of competitive edge.
Finally, the study has its limitations in that it only dealt with the manufacturing industry. In future, they need to expand to the service industry to identify the factors influencing its design management and to analyze their relations with management performance. In addition, it`s also required to consider the success factors of design companies by the areas.

The expressive elements representing love are symbolic signs standing for various fields and special facts, but they do not mean the same thing to every person. Various symbolic expressive elements associated with the feeling of love are used as a certain means of communication and constitute signs with multiple meanings. In addition, those elements play roles of wish and hope for love, constantly reproduce meanings and deliver ambiguous aspects to us in some effective ways. Historical records in every culture indicate that man pursues, calls for or predicts love and avoids upcoming crisis and protect love through various religious ceremonies and beliefs. Expression of love presented with symbolic signs is cultural and religious product of each age and displays itself in various ways regardless of ages and countries. At the same period, reveals culture and sentiment of each country, age and religion in a symbolic way.

JEWNR 23(0) 57-66, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
These days a number of organizations are developing their brand strategy to capture customer`s interests with their own brand, since we are living with enormous amount of other competitive brands.
As a matter fact, the strongest brand strategy is not making a competitor weaker, but making competition itself unnecessary. To make it happen, producer must build a bridge between customers and the products with the emotional approach.
It is important that producers are not only stimulates customer`s general material interests but also emotional interests at the same time. The producer should be able to approach to customer emotionally expressive ways. They should recognize the customer`s imagination and let them experience the personal emotions and its culture value through the product. For instance, by successfully introducing coffee not just as an ordinary drink but as a way to express and experience today`s culture, Starbucks Coffee Co. has been an important example for successful brand.
As we can observe in this outstanding case, a well rounded approach of a brand could gain good emotional reactions by customers who use its certain brand product. Therefore, emotional approach of a brand could make affirmative connections between producers and customers.
Brand communicate with customers as a sign of trust. It represents mutual trust between organization(producers) and customers.

JEWNR 23(0) 77-90, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
Seeing the corporate symbol mark as the general signification, the purpose of this study is to make a systematic and theoretical approach to the corporate symbol mark by analyzing, in semiotic terms, the signification that the symbol marks of 3 domestic broadcasting companies bring about .
The significance that the corporate symbol mark presents is not fixed beforehand, but `generated` by the receiver`s linguistic or other than linguistic ability. Therefore in signification, the speaker and the receiver may be identical or different. Perceiving that, this study takes the viewpoint. this study examined the structure of form plan and content plan of the symbol marks of 3 domestic broadcasting companies with the Greimas` model, materialized it in the sign-symbol generative and set up the positioning of different cultural value that each structure of the symbol marks of 3 domestic broadcasting companies. Furthermore, this study pointed out the limits of Floch sign rectangle that is adopted as a semiotic trial of signification and presented Peirce`s reference, possible world, as an alternative to complement the generative aspect of sign with the interpretational aspect. The possible world is a methodology of an aspect that enables the fictional world by approaching the reality through receiver`s interpretation. First of all, this research built up the form plan and the content plan of each symbol mark of 3 broadcasting companies by adopting Greimas` model of significance generation structure and set up the general positioning of them. It was found out to be too much simplified and inclusive. This, however, is merely a potential conclusion. A new approach to those symbol marks of broadcasting companies was taken with Peirce`s 3 terms model and case grammar and it was possible to establish more diverse models of receiver`s interpretation. In conclusion, it was found out that 2 rather than 1 approaches are more useful for problem solving in analyzing symbol marks.

JEWNR 23(0) 91-102, 2009 |
ABSTRACT
When advertising can be defined as persuasive activity, It is clear that the employment of symbolization is useful means for persuasion. Symbolization is the one of important means for understanding consumers` intentions as well.
However, the complicatedness of utilizing and analysis of symbolization makes its imperative application to the advertising intricate. This study aims at the understanding the importance, manners of use and further possibilities of symbolizations by investigating the purpose, phrase and adequateness of advertising. Specifically, this study is examining the broad-spectrum arguments for symbolization firstly and then the routine of symbolization in advertising secondly.
Symbolization has been shifting and building up with mankind`s history as a means of communication that only human being retains. Though, due to its abstractness, the translation can be very delicate value-based and vague, it still takes the positive role as it helps people develop environmental awareness and ability to considerate. Thus, symbolization can even be the basic element of communication and comprise the translation, formation and creation of human culture. The arguments for advertising and symbolization have mainly been in the boundary of semiotics until now. The semiotic process in semiotics deals not only with symbolic elements in advertising but also visual and verbal meanings. The process that symbolic elements are being made by advertising is the same as communication process in general, In that a person`s experience, culture and tradition become meaningful and translated into different meanings. While the symbolic elements are acquainted through long journey of cultures and social traditions, the meaning exchanges beneath of surface expressions are very vital communication activity.
Thus, the insight research for the proper interpretation and utilization is apposite to contribute to the area of advertising design.
