Study on Package Design for Children’s Healthy Snacking - Focused on the Problems of Children’s Cereal Package Design -

ABSTRACT
Background Consuming a large portion of high-energy-dense snacks has been considered as a key driver of children’s high energy intake and weight gain. Despite the potential that package design can play a role as an effective tool for the portion size control of snacks, academic research on children’s snack package design is rare. The purpose of this study is to identify problems of children's cereal packages and to suggest design directions for children's healthy snack consumption.
Methods Four kinds of children's cereal packages were selected based on brand market shares and sales rankings. The selected cereal packages were analyzed based on visual, informational, and structural aspects.
Result Design strategies, such as providing information, offering different sizes, indicating feedback, or recommending a specific portion size to help children’s healthy snack intake, were not used in children's cereal packages. In a visual perspective, children’s cereal packages mainly emphasized chocolate images, and focused on attracting children’s interest rather than considering their health. In an informational perspective, children’s cereal packages did not provide any information for children’s adequate portion size. In a structural perspective, children’s cereal packages tended to be big-sized.
Conclusion The main problem of the current cereal packages for children is the lack of design strategies for children’s healthy snacking. Therefore, the development of cereal package design would be needed and helpful to encourage more healthier choices for children.

Research on Health Emergency Information Design for Foreigners in South Korea - Focusing on the COVID-19 Pandemic -

ABSTRACT
Background COVID-19 has become a global issue in countless aspects. One of the challenges has been the dissemination of information about the virus, especially to the foreign population, which are more likely to be in danger during a health emergency because of linguistic and cultural barriers. For this reason, this study investigates the accessibility of official information provided by the Government of South Korea on COVID-19 through different platforms, such as apps, pamphlets, ads, and informative posters.
Methods The opinions of foreigners who reside or have been in South Korea during the COVID-19 outbreak were evaluated through an anonymous online questionnaire. Elements that were lacking or needed further development, were discussed. Afterwards, seven samples pertaining to three different media modes (smart, online, and offline) were analysed based on their accessibility, and a few guidelines for each media mode were proposed.
Result In regard to emergency health information acquisition, online media was the most used mode by foreigners. However, foreigners still faced challenges, such as being confused by conflicting information, or not being able to find information due to poor visibility. The accessibility factors of utility and usability also required some improvement.
Conclusion To improve the communication of health emergency information to the vulnerable foreign population, we should unify and interconnect the content, facilitate the translation by third parties, improve comprehension and engagement with the user, and add other senses for people with disabilities.

Child Emotion Review Application Design with Design Thinking Empathizing Process

ABSTRACT
Background In recent years, it has been found that there has been an increase in mental illnesses in children and infants in Korea. According to existing findings and our observation, detailed feedback on children's emotional expression is essential for their growth and emotional health. Thus, to contribute in combatting this ongoing problem, the purpose of this paper is to design an application that can help review and monitor the emotions of 5-6-year-old children in order to improve their emotion regulation. By focusing on children's emotion regulation theory and design thinking methods, we designed a mobile application prototype with features intended to help children express their feelings and provide feedback for them. Through children’s direct participation and feedbacks during user testing, we were able to observe and analyze how the features and functions affect children's emotional expression.
Methods This research is based on a qualitative study using design thinking methods where the data were collected through interviews and usability tests were conducted to measure the performance of the application and user satisfaction. The interviews were conducted to understand the behavioral characteristics of children aged 5 to 6. The findings were then used to determine and design of the elements and features of the application. After developing a prototype, usability tests were conducted with 7 children from South Korea, China, and Indonesia. Through interviews and surveys, insight and feedback to optimize the application were discovered.
Result It has been found through our observation that overall, children between the age of 5 and 6 were interested in using the emotion review application. The presented emojis, designed as a potato character, played an important role in attracting children's interest. Moreover, this application simply reviewed the children's emotions and helped the parents to have a better understanding of the children and to improve parent-child communication. Thus, we can conclude that this application is able to help express children's emotions, and through utilizing the application, a positive relationship between children and parents can be formed.
Conclusion The process of leading 5-6 years children to openly express their emotions and share their emotions was difficult. However, we found that if the children are visually interested in the mobile devices that they are familiar with or if there is active assistance from their parents, the process can proceed smoothly. Therefore, by utilizing an interesting form of emotion monitoring system for children combined with parents’ participation and support, children‘s emotion development can be strengthened and therefore can help with emotion regulation and emotional health.

A Study on the Application of Hologram for Universal Design - Parking Spaces for Disabled People in Korea, China and Russia -

ABSTRACT
Background This study is to apply holograms to parking spaces for the disabled from the perspective of universal design. With the recent development of holographic technology, various application sites that incorporate it are attracting attention. Hologram is a real welcome effect based on human visual characteristics, proximity, realness, and three-dimensional. This study aims to fuse hologram technology and universal design through a feasibility study of the application of parking spaces for the disabled to enable hologram technology to find a better development direction.
Methods This study first identifies the development status of holographic imaging technology through theoretical consideration, understands the concept and characteristics of universal design, and then conducts a survey on the disabled system and parking space in Korea and China. Through the introduction of the concept of universal design and the PPP evaluation method, the seven principles and three-part evaluation system according to the PPP evaluation were established. Through a case study of holographic parking spaces, the current disabled parking spaces are compared with holographic parking spaces, and the characteristics of holographic parking spaces are found through PPP evaluation 7 principles and 3 supplementary analysis.
Result Universal design is an important content in urban design. As a result of the PPP evaluation, the general disabled parking space in Korea and China and the hologram disabled parking space in Russia had the highest score for simplicity and space, and convenience ranked second. Hologram disabled people cannot be fully distributed due to high input. In addition, due to differences in culture and education, various opinions and advice should be sought when designing.
Conclusion When designing parking spaces for the disabled, the demand for the disabled should be comprehensively considered. As South Korea and China build future cities, it is expected to see more holographic parking spaces for the disabled and public facilities combining science and technology and universal design.

Development Plan of Improvement Points Through Design Evaluation of Public Facilities in Mokpo Peace Square

ABSTRACT
Background The identity of Mokpo peace plaza is not identified, and the functional, environmental, and historical aspects of public facilities are not reflected. Therefore, this study proposes a way to identify and develop factors that citizens negatively evaluate through the design evaluation of public facilities in the plaza.
Methods First, the measurement variables are set after reviewing previous studies. Second, through the design evaluation of public facilities in Mokpo Peace Plaza, the lowest variables are identified, and development plans are suggested. For the evaluation, an empirical analysis will be conducted by distributing a questionnaire. For analysis, frequency analysis using JASP 0.16.2, descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, and ANOVA is performed.
Result As a result of the integrated preference analysis, universal (M=2.976) recorded the lowest evaluation. As a result of the detailed evaluation of universal items, consideration for pregnant women (M=2.892) recorded the lowest evaluation. To analyze the difference by gender, a t-test was performed. As a result of the t-test, no significant results were found in all items. Also, in the analysis of differences by age group, it was confirmed that there were evaluation differences in the items of identity (F=3.970, p<.01) and universal (F=5.850, p<.001).
Conclusion First, because of the integrated preference analysis, it was found that the universal design needs improvement. In detail, the citizens responded that the consideration for pregnant women was low. Therefore, a design for pregnant women in Mokpo Peace Plaza is necessary. Second, because of confirming the distribution of differences by age group, it was found that improvement of identity, aesthetics, and harmony was necessary. Since the perception of young people was negative, a way to improve it should be devised. Third, due to the analysis of differences by age group, the universal design evaluation was negative in the youth group. It is necessary to improve the negative perception of universal design among young people.

Characteristics of Ludovic de Saint Sernin's Work from a Sexuality Fashion Point of View

ABSTRACT
Background Sexuality is closely related to human sexual desire, playing a role as part of fashion creation. The purpose of the study is to analyze works of Ludovic de Saint Sernin who generated creative fashion with sexuality emotion and explore the characteristics in them.
Methods A literature review and case study analysis of Ludovic de Saint Sernin works was conducted. First, sexuality fashion feature and designer’s motive are examined. Second, sexuality characteristics are derived from analysis on formation of concept and model, silhouette and item, color, material, pattern and ornamental details ranged from 2018 S/S to 2022 F/W in case study.
Result Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s fashion is accessible in terms of expression of genuine freedom and peculiar with item components such as slim and fitted silhouette, lace-up eyelet, transparent material and leather, body exposure, and gender-free item. Therefore, the brand individuality seeks elegance and balanced sexuality and appears as provocative sensuality, reinterpretation of gender fluidity, and handwork-based ornamentality.
Conclusion This examination would be helpful in finding that Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s work widened the spectrum of fashion and proposed a new vision. This research expects a variety of sexuality fashion with focus on intrinsic beauty in human.

The Development of Guidelines for Marketing Evaluation Factors in Brand Design: McDonald's, a Fast-Food Brand

ABSTRACT
Background Due to the influence of COVID-19, there has been a big change in the way of life, and the food culture environment has also been greatly affected by online-to-offline (O2O) commerce. In the field of fast-food brands, it is necessary to approach from the perspective of integrated design communication for an effective marketing strategy. Existing design evaluation element guidelines have focused on evaluation analysis with detailed design items. The purpose of this study is to develop guidelines for evaluation factors of brand design marketing to increase objectivity and accuracy in fast food brand design marketing strategy.
Methods Based on the 4Cs (consumer, competitor, circumstance, and communication) of design marketing, three upper evaluation elements and six lower evaluation elements were derived by analyzing the external factors of the brand and reorganizing the contents of design marketing. Using this, the standard of an integrated guideline for design marketing strategy was presented by reorganizing the relationship centered on the eight elements of communication design.
Result A guideline was proposed, which is composed of 6 evaluation factors that are finally derived and arranged and 23 detailed evaluation items related to them. The proposed content was developed with a focus on whether it is possible to directly or indirectly experience and communicate with consumers in 3 aspects: ‘Visual’, ‘Emotional’ and ‘Cognitive’.
Conclusion The developed guidelines are strategically focused on the point of contact with consumers by combining design elements and marketing. This study is significant in that it contributed to the development of comprehensive and objective evaluation guidelines from the visual approach to the emotional approach to the cognitive approach. It is expected that the developed guidelines will be valuable as basic data for brand design marketing evaluation in the future.

Design Guidelines for Passenger Information Digital Display Device for the Elderly - Focused on Express and Intercity Bus Terminals -

ABSTRACT
Background Although Passenger information display media are being gradually installed at high-speed and intercity bus terminals, it is inconvenient to grasp the information. The purpose of this study is to propose design guidelines to provide easy-to-understand information to the information-vulnerable class including the elderly.
Methods For this study, related literature, such as operating guidelines for variable guide devices, was investigated through field surveys of 8 domestic express bus terminals and prior research. By comparing and analyzing cases of highway bus terminal Passenger information in Japanese cities similar to the domestic environment and domestic cases, major implications and improvement plans for bus Passenger Information using display were derived.
Result First, it is necessary to provide Passenger information in major spaces such as the ticket office, waiting room, boarding gate, and boarding area of the bus terminal so that the elderly can understand the situation and guide their actions before boarding the bus. Second, it is necessary to classify complex route information in an easy-to-recognize way by combining and classifying the text and color of the destination. Third, the visibility of driving information is improved by considering the contrast, amount of information, diagramming, and arrangement for the elderly or people with low vision.
Conclusion By providing real-time Passenger information through LED and LCD information displays, it is possible to secure the publicity of private-centered express bus terminals, help the elderly understand the situation and induce behavior, and increase the value of express bus use.

Vector Graphics-based Step-by-Step Motion Blur Application Audience Preference - The Basic Motion of Motion Graphics -

ABSTRACT
Background The aim of this study is to examine viewer preference according to the step-by-step motion blur application based on vector graphics at high-speed frame rates and to provide a guide to the application of appropriate motion blur to producers.
Methods Expression vector graphics techniques corresponding to five guinea pigs were based on basic motion to produce an image motion of five and to create 15 images with motion blur to classify the three steps. From the first to third guinea pig, we derived their preference using the subjects set to step 7.
Result 'Grow / Shrink' and 'Spin' with a relatively narrow range of motion of applied space were found to be preferred when the motion blur standard was strong at 3. 'Motion Path', 'Point At', and 'Throw' with relatively wide range of motion applied space were found to be preferred when the motion blur standard was 3.
Conclusion There is a difference in preference according to the five motions corresponding to the basic motion and the range of spaces to which the motion is applied. Through the results of this study, future research intends to provide a production guide for the application of motion blur based on vector graphics.

A Study on the Basic Pattern of Pattern Design of Mugunghwa - From real flowers to pattern design development -

ABSTRACT
Background Despite the production of products, festivals, and designs using the image of Mugunghwa, the research on pattern design of the Korean national flower, Mugunghwa, is relatively insufficient. The purpose of this study is to propose a practical plan by developing the basic types of Mugunghwa from various angles from real flowers to pattern design under the theme of the Korean National Flower, Mugunghwa, which is a national symbol.
Methods The basic type of pattern design was derived by analyzing the shape of Mugunghwa flowers in the research method. Using the basic type of Mugunghwa pattern design, the principles and methods of construction of continuous patterns, anisotropy continuous patterns, four-way continuous patterns, and filling patterns were theoretically constructed and applied to the actual Mugunghwa pattern design.
Result The research results are based on the three types of linear basic type, curved basic type, and basic type of Mugunghwa pattern design, which are basic units of Mugunghwa design, by synthesizing design elements through the analysis of Mugunghwa flowers and previous studies. Based on these three types, the arabesque design was completed by combining the S-shaped curves, which are the vine patterns of plants. In addition, the arabesque design was repeatedly arranged with certain rules to complete continuous patterns, anisotropic continuous patterns, and four-way continuous patterns. In addition, the basic shape of the Mugunghwa pattern design was brilliantly completed with a filling pattern that was tightly constructed in shapes such as triangles or squares.
Conclusion First, by observing Mugunghwa from various angles from real flowers to pattern design, the basic design of Mugunghwa was freely developed from Mugunghwa flowers, leaves, stems, and peaks. Second, the system and order of the composition method of the pattern applied to this were prepared and developed into the arabesque pattern, anisotropy continuous patterns, four-way continuous patterns, and filling patterns of Mugunghwa.
With this study, it is hoped that continuous research on Mugunghwa pattern design will be conducted. Furthermore, it is expected that the results obtained in this study will be incorporated into real life and become one of the cultures of Korea.
