ABSTRACT
Background This study focused on the use of lacquer and painting techniques as materials to express the artist’s essence in ceramics as well as the need to understand and interpret them as artistic media.
Methods This study investigated the historical backgrounds of lacquer techniques related to Dotaechilgi (lacquered ceramic ware) and expressive techniques by country (Korea, China, and Japan) by observing examples of techniques applied to lacquer and lacquer-on-ceramic as materials and media and examples and discovered relics using such techniques.
Result Najeonchilgi (lacquerware inlaid with nacre) is based on the Pyeongtal technique popular in the Tang dynasty, which was introduced to Unified Silla in the 8th century, resulting in the creation of Goryeo Najeon (Goryeo Dynasty Najeonchilgi) through a skilled process. Goryeo Dynasty Najeonchilgi was characterized by repeatedly arranged expressions, and the Joseon Dynasty Najeonchilgi had larger pictorial patterns allowing more freedom. Goryeo Dynasty Najeonchilgi marked the golden age of lacquerware culture and was widely distributed in East Asia, although it was most developed at home. The Jochil technique, in which a pattern is engraved or embossed after a thick layer of lacquer has been applied, was developed in China, while the Shihwa technique, in which art is painted using lacquer and a colored powder such as gold powder is sprinkled before the lacquer dried, was created in Japan. The lacquer solution possesses a latent beauty, with natural, crafty, and artistic appeal as a material. The value of Dotaechilgi as an artistic medium is reflected in the expanded potential it afforded in scope and expression.
Conclusion Each country and period were studied, resulting in the identification of representative Dotaechilgi lacquer expression techniques in Korea, China, and Japan. Through the analysis of historical values and significant cultural assets, it was demonstrated that a ceramic craft could be spread as a domain and medium.

JEWNR 76(0) 167-180, 2022 |
ABSTRACT
Background Art is used not only as a visual function, but also as a symbolic and subjective means of expressing the feelings and thoughts of the artist's inner world.
Among the themes, forms, and materials of expression, women are generally expressed as symbols of beauty, women's beauty is likened to flowers, and flowers are personified as images of circulation and creation rather than pure and beautiful.
This study uses women and flowers together as a way of expressing women, and uses enamel as an expression material to emphasize this. Enamel is a material that is continuously experimented with many techniques and various materials, and can even express various pictorial expressions beyond the limits of color expression in metal.
The purpose of this study expresses the cycle of motherhood, woman's conception and childbirth through flowers along with the image of a woman, and seeks a method of modeling that can further maximize the image of the work by using enamel as an expression material
Methods As a method of research, I would like to symbolic of flower and decorative expression of flowers through case studies of the symbolism of flowers, which are the theoretical backgrounds, and case studies of female artists who expressed flowers and women, and apply their characteristics to the expression of works.
The contents and techniques of enamel used as a material for color expression along with form were summarized how it was expressed through the researcher's work
Result The flat work, which expresses the image of a woman with flowers, expresses a feeling of tension and fluidity by expressing a self-portrait using flower decorations and mirrors and a flower as a metaphorical subject. And the ornaments by substituting women for flowers were made through the process of simplification and repetition through the enlargement and symbolism of flowers, and the forms of lines and planes had rhythm and vitality through visual rhythm. And the coldness of the metal and the warm contrast of the enamel made it possible to make the image of the flower stand out in the enamel ornaments.
Conclusion Through this study, this researcher was able to explore ways to express women's beauty and inherent psychological characteristics.
In particular, women's beauty was emphasized using the material flower, and motherhood, circulatory meaning, and inner feelings were approached, and as a result, the study of enamel work depicting women and flowers was expressed in various ways.
The use of enamel was able to maximize the image of the work through color expression, line expression, decoration, and repetitive expression in metal works.
It is expected that this study will be helpful in broadening the formative and material domains in the expression of enamel works through the form of flowers and women.

JEWNR 76(0) 193-204, 2022 |
ABSTRACT
Background The boundary between IoT and the wireless communication field is collapsed by industrial development. Hence, the frequency of using electronic devices and the exposure to electronic waves in daily life are increasing. The International Agency for Research on Cancer affiliated to the World Health Organization classified the extremely low frequency magnetic field and electromagnetic waves of the mobile phone into 2B of cancer occurrence grade. Similarly, the harmfulness of electromagnetic waves on the human body has been verified. As relevant regulations are subdivided at home and overseas, and the R&D of shielding technology is more accelerated, the necessity of products equipped with an electromagnetic wave shielding function has been recognized. Thus, this study produces a brooch that uses lacquer, which is a natural material with verified effects on shielding electromagnetic waves and utilizes the Korean traditional lattice pattern as a design element.
Methods For presenting the decorativeness and electromagnetic wave shielding effect to the production of work, this study considers the definition of applying lacquer, expression technique, and functional characteristics. This study researches the definition of Korean traditional lattice pattern and theories of structure, and then combines them with the design. Next, through the cases of lacquered jewelry, this study verifies the differentiation of this study for electromagnetic wave shielding, and then verifies the value of design by examining the works applying the lattice pattern. Designing a lacquered brooch with an electromagnetic wave shielding function, this study produces a differentiated product by expanding the area applied with lacquer.
Result First, the necessity to shield electromagnetic waves was verified by examining the harmfulness on the human body when exposed to electromagnetic waves for a long time. Second, the effects on shielding were verified by considering the relevant preceding studies to verify if the utilization of lacquer is suitable for the purpose of shielding electromagnetic waves. Third, the definition, structure, and formativeness were researched to utilize the lattice pattern for the design of a brooch. The composition of lines, geometric beauty of the sculpture, and elements of nature shown in lattice, seemed to be suitable as a design element. Thus, the design was composed by simplifying and transforming them. Fourth, the area applied with lacquer was examined by researching the preceding cases of lacquered jewelry. They did not meet the condition of wide area for lacquer to utilize the electromagnetic wave shielding function. Therefore, the differentiation of the work in this study has been verified.
Conclusion This study suggests the aesthetics of applying lacquer, which is a Korean traditional technique and the functionality to shield electromagnetic waves and produces a brooch applying the traditional lattice pattern as a design element. This study is academically significant in the aspect of producing/developing the functional jewelry that could shield electromagnetic waves we are exposed to in daily life.

JEWNR 76(0) 229-240, 2022 |
ABSTRACT
Background Research on the emotional expression of interactive agents is being actively conducted. Although language expression is known to be important in emotional expression, not many studies have been conducted on linguistically approaching the emotional expression of interactive agents. This study attempts to identify the appropriate sentence-closing ending in the expression of emotions of interactive agents.
Methods previous studies on the emotional expression of interactive agents and the use of existing interactive agent termination endings were investigated. Subsequently, an experiment was conducted after manufacturing an experimental tool that combines sentence-closing endings for each emotional utterance. Based on the experimental results, the sentence-closing ending expression suitable for the emotional utterance of the interactive agent was identified.
Result The following results were derived through the experiment. In joyous feelings, it is better to use ‘Hae-chae’ (the expression of lowering among informal form) and ‘Haeyo-chae’ (the expression of raising among informal form). In sadness emotions, considering user satisfaction, it is okay to use both ‘Hae-chae’ and ‘Haeyo-chae’, but it is better to use ‘Haeyo-chae’ if you only think about emotional delivery. In anger feelings, it is better to use ‘Hae-chae’. In the sense of surprise, it is better to use ‘Hae-chae’ and ‘Haeyo-chae’.
Conclusion This study identifies the appropriate sentence-closing ending for each emotional utterance of interactive agents and is expected to be based on the study of various expressions of emotional utterance of the interactive agents.
