Background With the rise of communication technology, immersive content using digital technology is developed in museums to allow visitors diverse experiences and communications. The purpose of this study is to categorize the immersive contents of a museum to allow visitors to focus on the exhibition, and to make suggestions for the contents to be utilized according to their characteristics.
Methods A literature review was conducted to review the concept and the characteristics of immersive content. Based on the type of the experiences, the immersive contents were classified into 2 categories (Viewing, Participatory). Discussion and expert interviews were conducted to deduce 4 characteristics each. Based on these results, a survey was conducted on the 6 examples of the immersive content currently on display in the National Museum of Korea. The results were compared and analyzed based on the Likert 3-point scale.
Result Viewing contents showed an even distribution of focus, transcendence, delivery, and specificity. For participatory content, informativeness stood out among other characteristics.
Conclusion This study reviewed the exhibition contents of a museum. As a result, we understood the characteristics of the different types of immersive content, which is becoming a trend by fusing with digital technology. We expect the results to be utilized as background data to elevate the concentration of the visitors and the realistic experience they encounter. |
