ABSTRACT
Background The entry from industrial society to the information age is accelerating, the culture and values of design and crafts are changing as well as the changes in our daily lives. The creative fusion of digital production technology, art, and crafts opens up endless possibilities for expressing the formative language of a new era. By investigating and researching the characteristics of Dutch designer Laarman's work, this study examines the aspect of contemporary design culture and proposes it as an example of an innovative symbiotic relationship between technology and craft.
Methods To understand the historical background, I examined the impact of the development of digital technology, including the First Industrial Revolution, on traditional crafts. I also examined the development of information technology and the meaning of crafts during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, represented by 3D printing. Rahman was a prime example of this, and he examined the artist's philosophy and projects in detail.
Result After the Industrial Revolution, the design of simple and geometric shapes developed by modernists is transforming into a fluid and informal shape with the development of digital technology. At the same time, the heyday of the production culture is coming, in which small production spaces are activated and creative ideas are realized. The creative activities of amateur craftsmen, not traditional craftsmanship concepts, are also emerging as a new trend. Laarman's design is a combination of digital production technology that symbolizes a new craft concept, and shows infinite possibilities for creative production that was difficult to realize by hand.
Conclusion The present digital age does not make crafts obsolete, but offers new possibilities for both craftsmen and designers. Just as the pioneers of modernism developed an aesthetic inspired by industrial technology, new discourses on the hybrid craft values in the digital age is needed.

JEWNR 69(0) 17-26, 2020 |
ABSTRACT
Background This study attempted to analyze the lower body shape of 60-69-year-old males using index values based on height and weight, and set up clusters to present the characteristics of each body type. Through this, we would like to present basic data necessary for making ready-to-wear clothes suitable for the lower body of elderly men in 60s.
Methods This study analyzed 30 items related to the lower body of the direct measurement data of 142 elderly men aged 60-69 years from the 7th Korean human body size survey data of Size Korea. The SPSS 26.0 program was used for analysis.
Result The items related to height, width, circumference, length and weight of elderly men in their 60s all showed significant positive (+) correlation. However, it was found that the thickness item had no significant correlation with height. There was a very high correlation between height and lateral leg length. The lower body shape factor was extracted as the lateral size of the lower body to body weight, the height and length of the lower body to height, and the thickness of the lower body to body weight. The body type was classified into two types: one with a longer lower body compared to height and moderate obesity, and one with shorter lower body compared to height and higher obesity at the abdomen and waist.
Conclusion As body shape change increases with aging, it is thought that a study on the pants prototype and size system for elderly men in their 60s should be conducted according to the results of the analysis of the lower body shape. In addition, it is thought that it will be important to analyze the lower body shape and standardize it according to the development of ready-to-wear clothes to improve the fit of the lower body clothing.

JEWNR 69(0) 49-59, 2020 |
ABSTRACT
Background Currently, Korean color education lacks a convergent and systematic approach to color, as emotional approaches are emphasized only in art subjects and physical approaches are emphasized in science subjects. Moreover, in groups such as preschool, elementary and secondary schools, where there is little deviation in background knowledge and theoretical basic knowledge in color, there is relatively no difficulty in setting the direction or quality demand level of education, but in related majors of universities and graduate schools, there are so many variations between learners of color education, which makes it difficult for professors to plan and implement education. Under these circumstances, this study aims to draw up the deficiencies and complementary factors for color education in our country and suggest systematic ideas to improve them.
Methods The problems with color education in our country were grasped based on research reports presented by relevant institutions and earlier studies, and the revised 2009 and 2015 curriculums were analyzed to find out the state of color education in elementary, middle and high schools and in colleges and graduate schools. To determine awareness of color education that was the major content of the study, 10 graduate students who majored in design and art and who acquired a master's or higher degree were investigated in September and October, 2019, using an inventory that consisted of 14 items that included basic items about experience and detailed open-ended ones which called for additional explanations.
Result The findings of the study were as follows: First, the subjects considered learning about color very important because color was an integral element to recognize things and because it was an important thing that could be seen in everything at the same time. Second, they had experience of learning about color in college but they told they didn't have enough experience of taking practical courses. Concerning color theories, they pointed out that current major classes which provided an emotional and abstract understanding should be complemented by more physical and objective theoretical classes. In terms of practical education, they commented that existing education should change into the kind of education that could lead to practical work. Finally, they told it's a shame that the number of classes assigned to a semester(15 or 16 weeks) isn't sufficient enough to bring about such a change, and that many existing courses related to color education aim at preparing for certification acquisition such as that of colorist and eventually are standardized to ensure passing exams. In addition, they perceived that the publication of various related literatures is necessary as many textbooks are books on theories required for becoming a colorist and commentary books on past exam questions.
Conclusion There are rapid changes in people's emotional adjectives of looking at the world along with the advancement of scientific technology. Accordingly, a shift into color education that reflects advanced theories and involves various practical work is urgently required. This study is expected to provide some information on the right direction for new color education at this point of time where the change of color education is demanded.

JEWNR 69(0) 83-92, 2020 |
ABSTRACT
Background The process of recognizing the intrinsic meaning by finding the intentions and thematic consciousness included in the textile design pattern is to understand the morphological beauty and discover a series of communication processes about the relationship between the world and the world created by the designer. Therefore, this study began with the premise that a culture established as a result of human-human interaction exists and the symbolic system within it can be expressed as an image. To this end, this study focused on the internal method of expressing the mental among the visual ways of looking at the object in order to reproduce the viewpoint for interpreting the meaning of the subject. And in order to understand the meaning of patterns in textile design, I tried to propose a methodology that interprets formal ideas and changes in form and recognizes the subject and interprets them.
Methods Through literature review, the meaning analysis system of textual design as a means of communication is formed into a systematic structure.
Result To this end, we explored themes and methods of interpreting the themes based on Erwin Panofsky's Iconography theory, recognizing that the influence of historical facts and cultural rules or customs of the era influences the inherent intrinsic meaning. Also, in order to understand how it affects the formation of motifs, we examined the interpretation methods of Panofsky theory, and found the direction to graft them into the interpretation method of textile design by finding the relationship between them and textile design.
Conclusion Through this research process, a methodology for the thematic expression and meaning interpretation of textile design was established.
