ABSTRACT
This study aims to increase the satisfaction of users wearing slim-fit T-shirts and to meet demands for functionality and aesthetics by developing and presenting slim-fit T-shirt patterns for men in their early 20s that take the physical characteristics of the upper body and armhole shapes into account. A purposive sampling was performed on five men aged 20 to 24 whose height, chest, waist and hip circumferences, and shoulder and sleeve lengths fell within the standard deviation of the average measurements of men in their early 20s in reference to the 6th Body Measurements Survey. Their patterns were designed with varying amounts of ease in the chest breadth, back breadth, armhole depth, back neck breadth, back neck depth, front neck breadth, front neck depth, and sleeve cap height. Sample clothes were made out of single circular knit fabrics containing 3% spandex. Fit assessments on the subjects were conducted on two occasions for a total of six experimental clothes with the following results. First, the chest breadth and back breadth were 2B/10-1 and 2B/10, respectively, and there was no ease amount for the overall chest size. The shoulder length, back length and hip length were defined as 14cm, height/4 and height/9, respectively. Second, the armhole depth and sleeve cap height were set at height/7.5 and AH/3-1,5, respectively. Third, the back neck breadth was B/12, whereas the back neck height was 2cm and the front neck breadth was the back neck breadth-1.5. The front neck depth was the back neck breadth+0.5cm. Fourth, the shoulder length and sleeve hem circumferences, which define the t-shirt size, were measured as 62cm and 20cm respectively. Developing these slim-fit T-shirt patterns is expected to meet the demands for aesthetics and functionalities from men in their early 20s. These patterns will also serve as basic data for the production standards of local apparel brands making slim-fit T-shirt products.
