ABSTRACT
Background This study aimed to examine the qualities that define a home for Korean single-households in their 20s who are undergoing the initial experience of independence by living away from their family homes and forming perceptions of their own home. The definition of the concept of home goes beyond providing physical protection to encompass psychological attachment, while the diversity of households and cultural factors further complicate its understanding.
Methods Based on conducted literature review and in-depth interviews, this study reorganized a list of qualities for defining one’s home. Through interviews on 10 Korean university students living alone, concepts identified from prior research were updated according to cultural and social context.
Result The list of qualities were reorganized according to elements the demographic prioritizes based on categories of 3 aspects. The personal aspect remained important for emotional attachment. The physical aspect was considered particularly significant, while the social aspect was taken less into consideration and had notable changes. Insights found from in-depth interviews were the duality of home, elements of characterization within a home, and separation from social relationships. Perceptions on dual or multiple ‘homes’ naturally emerged for the demographic group; elements that make one’s home unique divided interviewees into two groups; and the population commonly sought for personal space, separating external social relationships from home. Conclusion This study carries significance in that it sought to update traditional notions of home and identify key elements that contribute to creating a home-like environment for the specific demographic.

JEWNR 82(0) 17-26, 2024 |
ABSTRACT
Background Recently, there is a problem of damaging the original contents as webtoons through generative AI. As above, since generative AI generates an image based on deep-learning data, it can be directly connected to the problem of damaging original contents and plagiarism. Therefore, this research aims to focus on the methodology according to design ethics so that the original contents can be protected in creative images using generative AI.
Methods Accordingly, this research was judged that the situation, in which images were simply created through generative AI that learned the drawing style of web-toon cartoonists and the data of the original setting, would have problems with copyright infringement and design ethics of the original. In this situation, a pre-test was conducted on writers or aspiring writers who worked as web-toonist on the web-toon service or online as like SNS. As a result of the pre-test, it was confirmed that they were aware of the negative perception of generative AI and the problem of their work damage.
Result Based on pre-test results, this research tried to present a paradigm model for the situation of 'degree of work imitation' and 'using the works of the deceased', which are social and ethical problems. After confirmation as above, this research proposed an ethical constraint paradigm model of AI used for prevention about drawing style of web-toon based on the grounded theory.
Conclusion In conclusion, this research would like to be helped to protect the right of original webtoon drawing work from generative AI.

JEWNR 82(0) 77-87, 2024 |
ABSTRACT
Background Advanced technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR) opened up new possibilities for non-professionals to create 3D shapes, forms, or artworks without professional training. Still, most existing works focus on supporting 3D modeling tasks; and understanding how to support the early stage of design (ideation and creative expression) is still lacking.
Methods This paper aims to investigate future interfaces that could support non-professional’s 3D geometry ideation and construction process. We present the generative design study in which we observed how ten non-professional designers brainstormed and generated custom 3D shapes for their personal desired objects.
Result We found that non-design experts rely on various 3D reference objects when generating their desired 3D geometry shapes, and they tend to apply those references directly in shape descriptions.
Conclusion Based on these insights, we highlighted the potential of having reference-based digital 3D design tools for novices. A new system called ShapeloreVR is proposed, which utilizes everyday objects and basic primitives in a VR design playground so that non-experts can quickly interact with, merge, modify, and generate desired 3D shapes while brainstorming.
