김수빈 Kim Su-bin
abstract
Background In the New Space era, the importance of international cooperation for the peaceful use and sustainability of space is emphasized, and various international cooperation programs are being attempted. According to this trend of the times, there is a need for discussion on the role and direction of design in the New Space era. Through a sustainable design approach, we aim to explore the role of design for sustainable development in the New Space era. Methods Conducting prior research and literature research, reviewed New space's characteristics, design application status, and limitations. Sustainable development goals and sustainable design approach factors and action items were derived. A schematic was prepared to understand the relationship between these factors, and the schematic was created by collecting the opinions of experts for each item on seven cases of space cooperation programs. Result In the prepared diagram, detailed goal items related to the contextual axis of sustainable design corresponding to the TBL category of the space cooperation program were visualized. In addition, the degree of correlation with sustainable design approach factors and practical factors were identified and visualized. Conclusion Sustainable design in the new space era requires a flexible approach tailored to the characteristics of individual activities within the core category of sustainability. Depending on the scope of the program's activities, the design strategy requires a multidimensional approach. The approach of this study is meaningful as an exploratory attempt on how to apply sustainable design in space cooperation programs in the New Space era.
