Abstract
Background Renewable energy is becoming increasingly important as a solution to alleviate power instability through the decentralization of power grids. Vertical axis wind turbines are advantageous in urban areas due to their simple construction, low maintenance costs, ability to operate in various wind directions, and low noise levels. However, they have not been fully utilized due to low efficiency, necessitating improvements in blade design. Biomimicry, which draws inspiration from nature as seen in the designs of Shinkansen trains and humpback whale blades, can be an effective solution. This study aims to find the optimal shape for small wind turbine blades through biomimicry and inspiration from nature.
Methods This study conducted a performance comparison experiment by 3D printing various blade shapes. It has been studied by inductive reasoning through several cases. The blades used in the experiment were based on the NACA0011 profile, and the comparison experiment was conducted by gradually transforming them into the sweet back angle type and the dihedral angle type.
Result It was observed that while the rectangular blade based on the NACA0011 profile took 110 seconds to exceed the wind speed, the swept-back type took 80 seconds, and the dihedral angle type took only 70 seconds. Therefore, it was confirmed that the modifications inspired by seagull wings resulted in faster rotational speed increases, making it the most efficient among the compared blades.
Conclusion This experiment confirmed that the dihedral angle type blade, inspired by seagull wings, was the most efficient. However, it still took 70 seconds to reach the required wind speed, indicating difficulties with self-starting. Therefore, additional research is needed to explore solutions for this issue.

Abstract
Background Specialized streets, which are part of urban development, not only combine culture and commerce, but also serve as an important means of increasing the value of local brands that reflect regional characteristics. However, after the development of specialized streets, the function and role of specialized streets are lost due to conflicts due to rent increases and content development without differentiation strategies, and a vicious cycle is being repeated in which the commercial district is unable to escape the recession. To solve this problem, it is necessary to move away from uniform streets, maintain the unique values of specialized streets, and develop diverse cultural contents that reflect the street identity, leading to this study.
Methods Domestic case studies were studied through prior research, literature, and policy data, and specialized streets with similar characteristics were extracted for case analysis. The scope of the study was investigated by accumulating theoretical background and using desk research methods through comprehensive analysis and environmental analysis. Based on previous research, regional brands and specialized streets were classified into physical and non-physical, the analysis framework for building specialized street brands was reconstructed and studied in detail, and future implications were presented.
Result Specialized domestic streets are strong in terms of visual, cultural, and exchange, and lack of theme, environment, and naturality. On the other hand, foreign cases have stronger visual and cultural characteristics and excellent storytelling and theme, so communication and accessibility are high. However, environmental and naturality were evaluated at a level similar to that of Korea. Overall, in Korea, cultural exchange and regional connection are strong, but visual effects and theme setting are conservative. Visual and cultural characteristics should be maintained, theme and exchange should be strengthened, and environmental and naturality should be improved
Conclusion The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, it is a participatory content model that reflects the unique history and culture of specialized streets to create a new brand for specialized streets. Second, it is a visual element model that utilizes cultural resources centered on the unique history and cultural tradition of each street. Third, a model is needed to commercialize products and environmental resources that can become unique assets of specialized streets. Above all, the ‘street-like’ content that can be felt on the street must be highlighted in order to serve as a means of close communication between consumers and local residents. The purpose of this study was to develop various cultural contents reflecting the identity of the street beyond the concept of a uniform distance. As a result of the study, the visual, cultural, and exchange of specialized streets were positively evaluated, but the theme, environment, and naturality were found to be insufficient. However, the regrettable point is that there was no idea way to highlight "distance," and the failure to develop various specialized street brand construction models suggests that follow-up studies are needed.

|
JEWNR 86(0) 71-80, 2025
|
Abstract
Background In today’s consumer-driven society, where emotional engagement plays a crucial role, coffee culture has expanded into roastery and specialty coffee. While this trend emphasizes personalization, the development of coffee cups that enhance both the taste of coffee and the user’s sensory experience remains limited. This study assumes that the shape, ceramic material, and firing method of coffee cups are intricately linked to enhancing the perception of high-quality coffee. Guided by emotional design principles, prototypes were created using various ceramic soils and production methods. These were evaluated by coffee enthusiasts to explore their impact on the perception of coffee flavor.
Methods As a design methodology for the prototype, the "emotional design theory" advocated by D.A., Normam. Two types of ceramic soils were used: a silk-white porcelain clay (4B) with no iron content and a mixed clay rich in iron. The materials were fired and crafted using a modern electric kiln and a hybrid kiln that combines gas and wood firing techniques. The sensory perception of specialty coffee was subsequently assessed using five distinct types of containers, including a standard ceramic mug for comparison.
Result The shape and structure of coffee cups designed with emotional design principles, as well as the type of ceramic soil and firing method, significantly influenced the sensory characteristics and user experience of the coffee cups. Notably, coffee cups fired in a gas-wood hybrid kiln achieved the highest evaluations across all criteria. This can be attributed to the hybrid firing method, in which the firing temperature is elevated using gas fuel before being finished with traditional wood firing. This process induces unique changes in color, surface texture, and material properties, which in turn enrich the perception of specialty coffee flavors.
Conclusion Design should go beyond mere functionality to encompass the overall user experience. In this context, the prototypes designed with emotional design principles and produced using the modern gas-wood hybrid kiln demonstrated a clear competitive advantage within the landscape of contemporary coffee culture. The gas-wood hybrid kiln employed in this study embodies the philosophy of ‘harmonizing traditional wisdom with modern technology’ and shows great potential for simultaneously addressing the demand for emotional engagement and cultural value in today’s society.

JEWNR 86(0) 115-124, 2025
|
Abstract
Background Existing studies on advertising have traditionally focused on visual elements due to picture superiority. Recently, however, new audio technologies like ASMR are being widely used in advertising and broadcasting. Accordingly, there is a need for research examining the communication effects of audiovisual semantic congruency.
Methods This study conducted an online survey among adults in the Seoul metropolitan area to investigate the differences in communication effects related to audiovisual semantic congruency. The collected data were analyzed using t-tests and regression analysis in SPSS Statistics 25.
Result This study found that advertisements with audiovisual semantic congruency lead to higher levels of attention, novelty, and behavioral intention. However, no significant differences were found in flow and relaxation. This study further identified flow as the most influential factor on behavioral intention, followed by attention and relaxation. Based on these results, it can be inferred that consumers first pay attention to advertisements due to the audiovisual elements, then enter a flow state, and ultimately feel relaxation.
Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that communication should be managed by distinguishing its persuasive functions and image functions, depending on audiovisual semantic congruency. This research contributes to the development of theories on multisensory communication and provides practical strategies for effectively using visual and audio elements.
