Title
Pattern Design by knitting structure and properties
김정실 Kim Jung-sil
Abstract
Growing demand in knitwear clothing has expanded the realm of design. That`s because the structural characteristics of knitwear provide elasticity and drapability, which then offers a flexible approach when it comes to design expression. Moreover, people`s tendency to seek activeness and convenience in their lives has led to high interest in casual and sports clothing, in which knitwear is the main source for. This phenomenon has increased consumption of knitwear. Through a careful theoretical examination, classical and vintage style knitwear has been recreated by Fair Isle and applied the motive to men`s cardigan wear. In order to make a simulation design, TexPro Design CAD 11.0 was used and 3D mapping technique was employed on the knitwear pattern. The surface texture of Cotton, Melange, Woolen, and Fancy were expressed in a variety of different ways and the color blue was used as the dominant color with the source 3~5 degree colors. As a result, it was found that knitting structure and properties could well be put into application in a creative way. Hopefully, the knitwear clothing industry will take advantage of knitting structure and properties that satisfy needs of consumers and create high-value knitwear in the future.
