Rhythmicity of Shadow Pattern - Focused on the Architectural Surface and Interior Space -

Abstract
Contemporary architects apply a lot of patterns to the architectural surface they design. The patterns of the architectural surface include fanciness, symbolism, human`s inner sensitivity and they are also shown in the shadow of interior space. Various shadow patterns emerge as a element of interior space, and rhythm can be found through the patterns. Rhythm is commonly found in the various field of nature, music, literature, architecture, and daily life. It also has continuity and unity and provides new experiences and a feeling of satisfaction to the users as a basic composition of modeling. Although a study on the rhythmicity of shadow patterns is valuable, it is hard to find research papers on the subject. In present study, theoretical review has been practiced on the rhythm of shadow patterns so as to investigate the characteristics of rhythm and shadow. Shadow patterns are reviewed from the perspective of rhythm through investigating modeling, characteristic, patterns. The case framework of this review have a result that the rhythm of shadow patterns is able to attract the users` attention and emotional changes and is valuable enough to be applied as a element of spatial design, so continual study should be supplied to find further applications.
