Abstract
This research analyzed the color variation characteristics of Korean fashion design in 2001-2005, 2006-2010 and 2011-2014 in order to provide the color-use-status of Korean designers in global fashion shows since 2000. We have reviewed the meaning and color characteristics of Korean fashion design in the previous study and collected colors directly from fashion photos on the web considered as Korean fashion designs by Korean designers. Color analysis was carried out to extract Hue, Value and Chroma values by "Munsell Notation Picture Analysis" of Munsell Conversion 12.1.16 then arranged by Munsell`s 40 color systems and PCCS tones. Various colors have been applied ever since 2010 along with mixed colors as well as 5 formal colors unlike around 2000 when 5 formal colors on Five-elements Color such as red in a high chroma, purplish blue, yellow and achromatic colors were mostly used. A large variety of colors appeared in each different tone with lower chroma and higher or lower brightness from modern color system perspective as such Ja-color(紫), secondary color between red and black, Hong-color(紅), secondary color between red and white, Byeok-color(碧), secondary color between white and blue and Ryu hwang(?黃), secondary color between yellow and black, whish shows the recovery of true Korean colors applying diverse traditional colors gradually away from the prejudice that traditional Korean colors are achromatic colors or intense primary colors with higher chroma. We can also verify that the academic performance regarding traditional Korean colors has been widely recognized and well applied to fashion shows since 2000.
