Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for the construction of brassieres that have a high level of fit and comfort for women in their 30s, whose bodies have started to go through biological aging process and experience changes in their breasts due to internal and external factors that include pregnancy, childbearing and breastfeeding. This study conducted a survey on 341 women in their 30s, who are currently residing in the Seoul metropolitan area, in order to identify their bra wearing behaviors and unsatisfying factors in wearing brassieres. The result of the survey analysis have revealed that the respondents expected to have their breasts placed into a better position for a balanced upper body proportion instead of having the aesthetical effects, such as an increased size or volume of their breasts. A large proportion of women in the survey responded that they consider size, design and fit as the most important factors when purchasing a bra. For the question on the level of fit of a bra, many answered that they want their bras to fit just right or little bit loose, and thus, prefer to wear their bras more comfortably. Therefore, bra wearing behaviors, unsatisfying factors of wearing a bra, as well as the changes in the breast shapes should be reflected and carefully considered in the construction of brassiere for women in their 30s.
