Aesthetic Characteristics of Ballet Costume in Neo-Classicism

Abstract
Neo-Classicism is not the art trend which is only limited to one country but its influence is very vague throughout all western countries and it is the art trend that has influenced not only the arts but also the society at large and other field of arts. In this study, aesthetic characteristics of neoclassical arts and fashion are considered and suggested the comparisons with aesthetic characteristics of the ballet costume. Aesthetic characteristics of neoclassical arts such as architecture, paintings, sculpture and fashion are classified with objective harmony, simplicity, practicality, functional utility and association with ideal antiquity. Neoclassical aesthetic characteristics of the ballet costume are perpendicular silhouette with discarding panier and tonnelet, simplicity from elimination accessory, wearing slippers instead of high heels for ballet`s technique and association with ideal antiquity wearing robe style of ballet costume. The ballet costume that represents the social culture and human life of the age in Neo-Classicism, it expressed formative arts into fashion and suggested new direction of creating something new for ballet.
