Sustainable Makeup Design Using Environment-friendly Materials

Abstract
This study aims to identify the notion of sustainable makeup design and to expand the scope of the sustainabilty by providing the corresponding designs. Furthermore, by presenting makeup artists with a new paradigm of sustainable makeup design, this paper seeks to create a variety of designs which are in accord with the trends of the society at large. Sustainable makeup design is defined as producing the beauty with using environmentally friendly materials. And it was emphasized that not only is the safety of nature and humans required, but cosmetics companies should produce products ethically as well, through minimizing invironmental pollution, energy usage, and skin damage caused while applying makeup. Sustainable makeup designⅠwas produced to support the notion of sustainable makeup design presented by the researcher and to suggest the availabilities; Sustainable makeup designⅡ was made, which integrated ecofriendly materials such as paper eyelashes and mud packs into the existing cosmetics; And Sustainable makeup designⅢ, which presented a new art makeup design using hardwood charcoal, honey, and grains, was also introduced. When makeup that has the goals of pursuing the beauty is integrated into sustainable designs through this study, both artists and ordinary people can access the concept of sustainable makeup design readily. If this great advantage is applied throughout the beauty industries and the notion of sustainable design in the beauty industries is defined, and the studies to suggest guidelines are followed, it must certainly be a way to promote the development of the beauty industries and to enhance the reliability and the usefulness of them.
