The relationships among job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction of fashion industry professionals

Abstract
As competitions in the domestic and global market have been increasing, Korea`s fashion company face the problems regarding the effective use of man power of professional workers. The purposes of the study are to investigate 1) the relationships among job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction of fashion professionals, 2) the differences of job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction according to five fashion categories, and 3) the differences of job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction according to demographics. The study distributed 500 questionnaires to the fashion professionals working at diverse categories in fashion industry. Among the distributed questionnaires, 419 was used for statistical analysis. The results showed that there were positive relationships among job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. When the fashion professionals perceived their jobs as well-organized, higher autonomy, and great responsiveness, they had a higher degree of organizational commitment. Also, the higher organizational commitment resulted in higher job satisfaction. In addition, there were differences among fashion categories in regard to job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. Finally, there were differences among demographics in regard to job characteristics, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. The results showed that there were the differences among the marital status, age, and work experiences.
