Abstract |
This study is to examine the present situation of elementary design education, and to develop design education programs based on edutainment with play and fun elements. As a preparatory research, the current state of elementary design education both at home and abroad, and elementary school teachers` understanding of design were looked into. It was learned how design education is currently provided in elementary schools and what problems it has. Textbooks used in elementary school courses were also examined and design sections were selected out of them. Newly devised education programs were applied to the selected sections and experimental teachings were performed. Concrete edutainment-based design education programs were proposed according to the study result. Underlying the new design education programs were proposed `communication, experimentation, planing & analyzing` in this study. The final object of this study is to apply education of design, for which integrated thinking process is required, to elementary courses effectively, and this is expected as a creative educational method for future generation. Accordingly, practical education programs were developed to present goals and contents for elementary design education for teachers who are not design specialists. |
