Title
Symbolic Approach in Package Design for Internet Shopping Malls
김남훈 Kim Nam-hoon
Abstract
With development of new media, purchase through new Internet media along with existing distribution structures is consistently increasing in contemporary society. Activated Internet shopping malls need new graphic languages in an aspect of visual languages considering cyber space. This study suggests that package design as a graphic language that is designed to deliver information effectively should consider immediacy and symbolic approach in cyber space. Package design in a product is a series of processes that interpret existing symbols and create symbols with new meanings. Therefore, the package design in online space should provide clear and objective images for customers just beyond delivery of information as attempts of coding and decoding meanings through symbols rather than induce curiosity about products.
