A Study on Furniture Design which are Creating Cognitive Territoriality in Spatial Furniture - Focused on Author`s Work < Stool with Partition 1,2,3 > -

Abstract
This study attempted to discuss the features of furniture design forming the cognitive territoriality by selecting the furniture from design history and author`s work titled < Stool with Partition 1,2,3 > as the subjects. The cognitive territoriality means the territoriality that enables the visual and emotional division of space and independent use of space without using the architectural elements in the space. This study applied the cognitive territoriality as the concept against the physical territoriality. As the methodology, the physical territoriality and cognitive territoriality were compared for theoretic examination. The furniture created by Charles Rennie Mackintosh(1868-1928), Frank Llyod Wright(1867-1959), and Zaha Hadid(1950- ) were investigated as the cases forming the cognitive territoriality in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 analyzed author`s works in accordance with the development and production process around the concept of works. The concepts of these works were fragmented into furniture as the medium of expression, pursuing the popularization of arts creating the furniture with soft edges, and comfortable and natural beauty. The results from the formative, structural and functional analyses on the works were explained as the organic and indeterminate formation, variable structure, and function to sensibly divide the space.
