A Study of editorial design to increase the legibility of a textbook - Focus mainly on the form of Hangeul-

Abstract
Textbook is a basic resource to teach, depending on the curriculum, which contains systematically sorted contents in that of specific field. Therefore, it is important to reselect and manipulate the chosen material to become simpler, and more attractive depending on, the curriculum. This means that to help study and activity to become more productive, the legibility of textbook is critical in order to encourage the student to study. The legibility in the context of textbook is the key point for student to understand the contents easier. Therefore, text should be reborn as systematic and complex typography. Typography is the initiating stage for student to understand the given information easier. Therefore, the one who conducts typography for the textbook, in other word the editorial designer, should consider the artistic element as well as the readability of Korean language when designing the typography. Moreover, it is critical to redesign Korean letters of native language to become, not only as a language to transfer the meanings but to become more visually artistic. The Korean language, the basic type style, can become text to transfer the meaning to image, image to superior mean with comprehensive concept of readability. As a result, writer has studied and analyzed editing design to increase the readability of textbook in this paper. In editorial design, author studied the concept and characteristic of a textbook and editorial design and has sorted it out depending on the characteristic of textbook and its curriculum. The concept of editorial design is described to suggest the role and concept of editorial design which should be carried out when making the textbook is described. In mutual relation of Korean language and editorial design, the structural characteristic of Korean language is described separately as structural element and space element. Author has suggested prototype textbook design in formative perspective of Korean language, yet still following the characteristic and rules of textbook.
