Title
The Notion and Embodiment of Anthropomorphism
임지희 Ji-hee Leem
Abstract
This paper is one of the cultural context backgrounds for PhD thesis and the working title is the representation of animals. In other words, the field of my research is specifically focused on the influences and implications of animated films featuring animals rather than human characters. I thought that it would be a significant challenge to argue that there is an interactive relation between how animals have been represented in culture and mass-media and our perspectives towards animals and nature on the basis of cultural backgrounds; our way of looking at animals and nature does have a huge influence on how animals are represented and also culture or mass-media dealing with issues of animals and environmentalism can similarly influence our understanding of the world. The main concern and debate for this paper is to explore and investigate various ways of anthropomorphism and to address what are the positive and negative implications of the representation of animals and anthropomorphized animals in culture. The body of this paper is divided into 4 parts: Origin of Animal Representation, Notions of Representation of Animals & Anthropomorphism, The various ways of representing animals and Issues which is related to Anthropomorphism and Representation of Animals
