A Study on the Avant-Garde Characteristics of Make-up in Fashion Shows - Centering on Fashion Shows of John Galliano since 2003 S/S-

Abstract
People have confused sense of values in complicated structures due to industrialization and development of mass-media, and are pursuing diversified characters to find their identity. Thus, art forms mental sympathy based on artistic trend of thoughts rather than formal styles according to abundant imagination and cultural, social and economic trends. Among them, avant-garde meaning transposition as a rapid artistic movement in the 20th century began as a style resisting against modern values of bourgeois and absolute ideal beauty of western countries, pursuing negation of traditional and novelty. It has have a great influence on costume and make-up of fashion shows since 2000s. As fashion show make-up which was confined to beauty make-up in the past, has have remarkable artistic elements since 2000s, it broke the frame of secondary element of fashion show and its importance has been highly recognized. Therefore, this study analyses the characters of avant-garde make-up shown in the fashion shows of John Galliano, a English designer, who attracts more attention from the fashion cycles because of his creative and experimental fashion style and those of Christian Dior for which John is a chief designer in order to present a new viewpoint to predict diversified design styles of future make-up.
