편정민 Pyun Jung Min
Abstract
This study is about the importance of Mise-en-scene design on frame work to present what a director wants to talk, focusing in the movie: [The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro](2001, Miyazaki Hayao). The message of the director is not described but narrated in movies. Thus it is symbolized as image symbol. As one method of understanding the director`s idea, we will see how the image is designed as mise-en-scene to present the theme with Miyazaki Hayao`s movie. Mise-en-scene analysis about identity image in [The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro] has five major categories ; the first, open identity of cultural symbol in forming western and japanese culture, the second, characters` existential identity of ego, the third, communication identity between elder and new generation, the fourth, ideologic identity - anti-capitalism - with joint distribution, and the fifth, pure identity against mammonism representing western cultures. This study will demonstrate that the world the director wants to show in frames is his own pure and creative space and the mise-en-scene as a design structure is the important element to translate the message in works to viewers.
