Background The sustainability of the fashion industry is now being addressed in depth even in global fashion week. Focusing only on new works by fashion designers every season, there have been many overlooked aspects such as overproduction and waste that occur during the preparation process of fashion week or the event, but efforts are being made to improve this. This study examined the sustainability practice of Copenhagen Fashion Week and highlighted its value.
Methods First, the literature review on the sustainability trends of global fashion weeks and Copenhagen Fashion Week was conducted. Second, based on the six sustainability focus areas set by Copenhagen Fashion Week, the practice cases of 2023 F/W participating brands were considered, and the meaning reflected in the practice was highlighted.
Result Copenhagen Fashion Week's sustainability focus areas are the strategic direction of fashion brands, design, smart material choices, working conditions, consumer engagement, and show case, and only brands that meet the minimum standards for each category can participate in the fashion week. The strict standards and accountability setting they set represent sustainability will and authenticity, serving as a milestone for brands participating in fashion week to adopt and practice sustainable practices. It is also valuable in that it strengthens the position of Copenhagen Fashion Week, as well as led the sustainable innovation of global fashion week, and expands the base by building a fashion community centered on sustainability.
Conclusion Through this study, it was possible to confirm the trend of sustainability practice in fashion week and the innovative will of fashion brands participating in them. In the future, it is hoped that these practices will be materialized and supplemented and expanded to fashion weeks around the world. |
