Background This study investigates the impact of smart tourism strategies implemented in Barcelona and Venice on protecting local landscapes and cultural heritage. The analysis focuses on innovative cases where smart technologies were introduced to alleviate the environmental, social, and cultural burdens caused by tourist overcrowding.
Methods The research was conducted using two main methods. First, it involved an in-depth analysis of the smart tourism strategies executed in each city, followed by an analysis of tourist movement patterns and behaviors based on the collected data. Second, it assessed the effectiveness of managing tourist flows and protecting cultural heritage through various smart technologies.
Result The findings indicate that managing tourist flows using smart technologies has been effective. Through IoT-based data analysis and tourist behavior analysis, both cities were able to manage tourist flows efficiently and reduce issues related to overcrowding. Furthermore, smart tourism technologies proved to be an innovative method for reducing the pressure on cultural heritage sites while enhancing their preservation.
Conclusion This study demonstrates the positive impact of smart tourism strategies on local communities and cultural heritage. The results provide valuable insights for city managers and policymakers to improve tourism management strategies and emphasize the practical applicability of these methods. Smart technologies present innovative and practical examples for promoting sustainable tourism. Future research should focus on evaluating the application and effectiveness of smart tourism strategies in various regional contexts and exploring new tourism strategies that may emerge with technological advancements. |
