Background This study re-spotlights on the esthetic and artistic value of the white porcelain jars among the contemporary art phenomena that are appearing in various ways. The comparison and analysis on the characteristics of white porcelain moon jars, which reached their peak during the Joseon Dynasty, and the formative ceramic art of found in the contemporary ceramics hold significance in identifying the current position of the contemporary ceramics and finding the future direction. purpose This study suggested a prototype applied with a practical slip casting technique to enable mass-production and add design and decorative effects for the white porcelain jars as an effective mean to create new formativeness and creative value. Methods First, this study examined the sense of esthetics and formative characteristics of the white porcelain jars that reflect the identity of Koreans in order to figure out how the sense of esthetics and formative characteristics from the Joseon Dynasty melted into the contemporary ceramic art. Secondly, this study targeted the white porcelain jars remaining in Korea and studies the techniques for natural lines, which came to the climax during the Joseon Dynasty, in order to explore the structures. Thirdly, this study explored the existing pieces applied with slip casting technique among the contemporary white porcelain jars and conducted a comparative analysis on the artwork of this researcher. The existing pieces have been used as the mean to design the prototype of the researcher’s formative ceramic art for the white porcelain jars as well as the opportunity to figure out the contemporary elements. Lastly, this study used the results to propose the formative ceramic art prototype of the white porcelain jars. Result This study examined the identity of the formative ceramic art for white porcelain jars found in the contemporary ceramics and examined the new formativeness of the white porcelain jars. Furthermore, this proposed the formative ceramic art prototype for the white porcelain jars applied with new production techniques and expression methods as the practical strategy for establishing the mission of future-oriented fusion.
