abstract
Background Motion graphics are being redesigned and used in many areas, including planar, advertising, animation, and film. Metaphor in particular expressed in images, is a means of information delivery and a method of simplifying recognition. Analyzing images with metaphor theory helps to better interpret movies and explore discipline by discovering the essence. Methods The works of leading designers Saul Bass and Kyle Cooper in the opening title of the films are always subjected to analysis. The method breaks down the components of the film opening title and the formative elements of motion graphics to analyze the metaphor representation of the film opening through the metaphor language and image analysis based on the type-specific characteristics of the metaphor. Result The opening title of the film combines a rather heavy theme with a stuffy background using metaphor, which reveals not only the metaphorical elements in the film but also the enthusiastic artistic characteristics, and shows the imagination and expression of this outstanding artistic. Conclusion The opening title of film is an expression of motion graphics, showing the audiences’ sensory stimulation and infinite imagination. It also shows a new way of visual expression through a combination of design and film language, such as music, text, and metaphor, while matching or complementing the development of the opening title. Therefore, this work provides a theoretical basis for the development of motion graphics. We hope to present efficient development directions for future motion graphics, and ultimately influence the future information diffusion through extended thinking.
