A Study on Promoting a craft artist's effective participation in an international residence Program - In case of international artist-in-residence program of Marunuma Art Park in JAPAN -

abstract
Background This research aims to study how craft artists could find the appropriate ways to persuade and effectively demonstrate the concept of their creativeness when they are required to meet various prerequisites to apply for artist-in-residence programs. Methods This research studied the examples of artists who participated in an international artist-in-residence program jointly conducted by the Korea Craft and Arts Design Foundation and the Marunuma Art Park in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, since March 2017. It analyzes the overall perspectives of artists and program providers based on direct interviews with the artist-in-residence program participants. Result artist-in-residence programs is to enrich artists’ understanding of overseas expansion by acquiring the appropriate ways to motivate art institutions and related parties; it could help to develop joint objectives for both parties and lead to more opportunities in the future. The most effective and practical systems for artists to secure local networks and earn chances for overseas expansion are artist-in-residence program and art fair participation. Conclusion In particular, the artist-in-residence program has been agreed to take by many countries. The huge growth in the number of such programs and their supports can be observed. The uplifting influence of the program has been enlarged since It has been played a great role in promoting art exchanging. The more opportunities for such programs are opened for artists all over the world. This study may reduce unnecessary trials and errors to help artists and program providers to focus on their goals.
