Background In this study, we want to conduct a comparative study on the differences in costumes of TV historical dramas based on the same period background, and we aim to draw design trends of TV historical dramas by categorizing the genres of TV historical dramas and collecting and analyzing cases of costumes for each drama and analyzing the differences between genres.
Methods First, a theoretical study was conducted on the classification of historical drama based on a literary review focusing on the book series, the preceding study, and the articles on and off line. Next, an empirical analysis was conducted based on the collection and analysis of visual and real-life data and the hands-on experience of a researcher who worked as a designer for a broadcasting station’s costume team.
Result In terms of form, both works followed the costumes in the Late 14th century Goryeo Dynasty and early Joseon Dynasty, but they were found to have attempted various changes in the form, color, material, design and jewelry of the costumes. In addition, orthodox historical drama ‘Jeong Do-jeon’was evaluated to reflect historical fact better than fusion historical drama ‘Six Flying Dragons’, which can be attributed to the importance of conveying historical facts and the fact that it is difficult to drastically change the traditional costume due to the nature of orthodox historical drama in which the actual figure is mainly featured.
Conclusion Attempts to produce clothes with high completion through such an appropriate modern interpretation will highlight the importance of TV historical drama costumes and contribute to making them recognized as independent works of art. Keyword |
