Title
A Study on the Classification of Lower Body Shapes of Men in Their 50s and 60s
김지민 Kim Ji Min
abstract
This study conducted factor and cluster analyses to classify men`s lower body shapes by utilizing 562 men`s direct measurement data from the 6th Korean Human Body Measurement Investigation (2010) and thus to provide basic information for the development of a sizing system for lower body of men in their 50s and 60s. The analysis on the lower body measurement changes for each age group indicates that the measurements for height, width and length decrease with age, while circumference measurements, except for hip and leg areas, increase proportionally with age. Men`s lower body experience more significant changes in the thickness than in the width. There are five factors according to the factor analysis and three types of body shapes according to the results from the cluster analysis. These five factors are Factor 1, horizontal circumferences of lower body; Factor 2, vertical lengths of lower body; Factor 3, measurements to determine the shape of leg; Factor 4, lengths of crotch area; and Factor 5, lengths of hip area. The Body Shape 1, a petite lower body with flat hip, is evenly distributed among all the age groups, which accounts for about 40.93%. The Body Shape 2, an obese abdomen and legs, accounts for about 32.21% among all the age groups and 51.93% among the men in their 60s. The Body Shape 3, a long lower body with slightly raised abdomen, accounts for 26.87% among all the age groups and 62.91% among the men in their 50s. The Body Shape 1, Body Shape 2 and Body Shape 3 are listed in descending order of frequency based on the overall distribution of lower body shapes among all the age groups and thus the most frequently appeared lower body shape of the men in their 50s ( 38.72%) and 60s (43.40%) falls under the Body Shape 1.
