abstract
This study suggests a concept for 2014 Service Design project `Making a Happy School` which `Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy` supported, and `Korea Institute of Design & Promotion` and `Kimhyunsun Design Institute` participated. The service design concept was proposed for a model case of Jeongja Middle School in GyeongGi-do, based on research and workshops in which the authors participated as a researcher and an adviser. Service design research was conducted on various stockholders and the research included observation, interviews, and group workshops. The method for service design was the one which Creative Design Institute, Sungkyunkwan University has developed. The results of the research shows that students and parents want respect of individuals, options for variety of `After School Activities`, freedom of choice. Various solutions to satisfy the results were suggested, and it was decided in consideration of the purpose of the project and limiting conditions. As a result, a solution with a new structure design for after-school activities was suggested considering the balance among 4 areas: relationship, motivation, psychologic state, and environment. The proposed solution of "Making a Happy School" intends to achieve the same goal. Moreover, it is a very desirable change that the government is willing to start from the service design point of view for the public issues such as education, because good education can flourish from loving and understanding students to provide motivation and satisfy their inner growth demands.
