Abstract
Recently, International Design Event has been held in Korea, such as “Design Korea" biannual events, supervised by MOCIE(Korean ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy), and in 2000, ICOGRADA, in 2001, ICSID. Among them, “Gwangjoo Design Biennale" is the first design event that include the whole specific design genre-This never happened in the world, and was held in the provinces. The most of Korean Design exhibitions have illustrated the national industrial power by displaying the real market products or visual works. But as the “Gwangjoo Design Biennale" showed the values and the visions of Asian and Korean design future, it showed the possibility of Gwangju which has a role of a engines for the world design industry. There is its significance. To take a continuous progress, it is needed urgently that the “Gwangjoo Design Biennale" has a vision of leading the world design trend by specifying Korean design values. By this activity, it is important to make the program for activating regional design industry. The programe should strengthen the capacity for each specific design field that Gwangjoo has. This is needed for “GDC(Gwangjoo Design Center)-the first regional Design promotion facilities in Korea", and ”ACC(Asia Culture Center)-on the construction in Gwangjoo". If the “Gwangjoo Design Biennale" had the right position by successful biannual opening, Gwangjoo has had a strong role as a world design future engine and contributed to develop regional industry. By this point of view, this study is aimed to make a plan as the strategy for activating specialized regional design industry related to regional culture by defining the role of “Gwangjoo Design Biennale" and making the vision of “Gwangjoo Design Biennale".
