Abstract
The magazine, a medium to share information and interests with common readers, has been transformed into varied visual appliances complying with the trends of design history, caused from its dependence upon visual sense. And the transition from analog to digital, an extraordinary technology, in publishing methods accelerated the progress of editing design and gave birth to a visual innovation. A new terminological category like DTP-Desk Top Publishing provided an access for anybody to design and publish books, brochures, pamphlets with the help of computer sets and editing programs. The appearances of varied-formed magazines in digital times refer to the variousness in Graphic Design. In pursuit of new visual aspects in comtemporary editing design and typography, magazines shaping in various styles are being published all over the world as well as in Korean, targeting some particular reader groups though. In spite of the attractiveness, the variousness of magazines could bring about confusion when it is abused indiscreetly. This paper examines the structure, styles and designs of domestic magazines, and analyzes their contents and visual aspects respectively. And the survey conducted with the subjects of magazine readers questioned preference for design and lifestyle magazines, and presents problems in editing design. Through the investigation of magazine design, this paper aims to identify the diversity of magazine design corresponding the particular society and culture, and readers` needs for various-shaped deliveries of information and interests.
