ABSTRACT
This study tried to approach the plastics of typography, occupying most of the sign elements, according to Gestalt theory. The study resulted in the fact that the interrelationship of typography is the interrelationship through order and harmony. The interrelationship shows reading ability and this makes the onlookers interested in or remmber that signboard long. In the optical condition, the sign is an information and a part of human life. If we give plastics and space to the sign as an element of culture, the downtown can be more beautiful and rich place; that can be a competitive power of a brand in this global period.

JEWNR 12(0) 449-460, 2005 |
ABSTRACT
While calligraphy has been widely applied in all design areas such as drama, films and various visual materials as well as the design areas such as movie posters, packages and book covers, the application of calligraphy on website was dismissed due to a variety of reasons such as risk to be caused by lack of professional techniques or knowledge. However, the application of calligraphy, which is manually written and simultaneously expresses instant emotion, dynamics and strong power touching the sensitivity of consumers is recently activated on websites as the alternative to the standardized and cold image, differentiation and readership score. Thus, this study analyzes the calligraphy expression trends on analogous emotion on website, the synonym of digital culture, and the application cases and suggests the effective application methods of calligraphy on website by making the database of identified readership score. Furthermore, the approaches to combine the emotional design in the coming digital age will be suggested.

|

JEWNR 12(0) 459-468, 2005 |
ABSTRACT
Narrative is perhaps the oldest and most widely used form for organizing information and human experience, thus, it is not surprising that there is a significant body of research concerning narrative and its importance to comprehension and understanding. One important outcome of this research is the concept of narrative intelligence, the human tendency to fit experience into narrative form. This research is extremely relevant to information seeking in general and sense-making in particular. This paper outlines the basic principles and research supporting the concept of narrative intelligence and its applicability to the ways in which people make sense of digital video. We explore relevant theory and research in sense-making, surrogates, narrative, and narrative intelligence and then present the preliminary results of two research studies. The first clarifies and operationalizes the concept of narrative as it relates to video. The second demonstrates how narrativity can have significant effects on information seeking and sense-making in digital video. Results from these studies have implications for how syntactic form can be used as a means of indexing digital video.

ABSTRACT
Today, Modern method is moving that see in that read in new inclination which is seen in eye that is occurring in visual art while role of image enlarges to pass meaning, text decreases gradually or is that section. This tendency appeared by aspect of literal dithering and deactivation, overlap of image and deactivation, destruction of grid, discord and unbalance, distortion of form and short piece, juxtaposition etc.. . These characteristics are derived as how see what? Purpose of allegory at the same time, appeared `Polysemien` through the opacity of meaning that expression indicates, that is observed here meaning direction method in allegory accomplish in directness of expression contents and form `inconsistency`, and combination of both just can be made ideally. That makes of traditional art that `symbol` and `beauty` refuse indefiniteness(non-regulation) and special quality of opacity are become acute and revitalize more that is contained essentially in allegory with request about investigation art that is new in modern (Deconstructionism) art circumstance. It is text and image, possibility of translation that can happen between coexistence and he between text and things are expanded by art all external circumstances as well as is disconstructed visual language as art inner circumstance and branches. That is, visual art is circumstance that is seeking variety of analysis through maximization of plastic more rather than intend traffic in today. I wish to examine closely communication function of expression and the deconstructual tendency and relation searching examination of allegory that is appearing newly by one of investigation the pursual and allegorical expression that appear in modern typography how function is embossed.

|
편정민 Pyun Jung Min |
JEWNR 12(0) 501-512, 2005 |
ABSTRACT
This study is about the importance of Mise-en-scene design on frame work to present what a director wants to talk, focusing in the movie: [The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro](2001, Miyazaki Hayao). The message of the director is not described but narrated in movies. Thus it is symbolized as image symbol. As one method of understanding the director`s idea, we will see how the image is designed as mise-en-scene to present the theme with Miyazaki Hayao`s movie. Mise-en-scene analysis about identity image in [The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro] has five major categories ; the first, open identity of cultural symbol in forming western and japanese culture, the second, characters` existential identity of ego, the third, communication identity between elder and new generation, the fourth, ideologic identity - anti-capitalism - with joint distribution, and the fifth, pure identity against mammonism representing western cultures. This study will demonstrate that the world the director wants to show in frames is his own pure and creative space and the mise-en-scene as a design structure is the important element to translate the message in works to viewers.

JEWNR 12(0) 515-525, 2005 |
ABSTRACT
The present study purposed to analyze visual design elements for users` emotional expression through avatar characters in online community space of virtual environment. It is because users` emotional expression is closely related to avatar characters` visual expression through social synchronization. We limited the scope of research to avatar characters found in online community space and investigated within the range of emotional expression components. As for the contents of research, we reviewed the origin of avatars in Hinduism and the characteristics of avatars on the Web, and comparatively analyzed the elements of emotional expression such as subjective emotion, functional emotion, emotional expression behavior and physiological reaction as well as the visual expression of avatar characters. Avatar characters found in online community space were used as research models. According to the results of this study, users` emotion can be expressed with various visual elements of avatars and, through this, socially synchronized interaction is activated in virtual environment. Socially synchronized emotional expression and avatars` visual expression are meaningful in that they work as important criteria for interaction in online community space and activate internal interaction between senders and receivers.
