ABSTRACT
We call our age `convergence Era`. But the term has never been correctly defined in any scholar domain until now. This study reflects this term of convergence in comparaison with those of consolidation, consilience, integration etc. which have mixed often the real demands and the majors` exchange in scholar areas. It has approached to a linguistic term of convergence as meaning `two elements conducted in a new element`.
This linguistic terminological meaning corresponds exactly to that of the biological one: 1) two substantially different species 2) living in a same environmental circumstance 3) producing s same biological trait for each one. But in the social sciences` perspective, the terminological trend is conducted for the purpose of utilitarianistical effects, especially in the domain of economy, marketing and medicine. Social term of convergence occurs a problem of terminological confusion lack of scientific consideration vis-a-vis those of linguistic and biology. But the term in social sciences` perspective gives a pragmatical sense in this term: real effect.
This study, resuming the term on all scholar base, tried to define a convergence in design environmental domain as like these: 1) two elements functionally different 2) driving together effectivly for human life 3) resulting or attending in the final a new element.
Although these definitions or meanings are not enough to make deep relation with every realty in our present design actuality, these can clear some terminological problems occurred from early in the domain of design for projection ots meningful creation in the future.

ABSTRACT
This paper investigated and analyzed the Korean characteristics expressed in furniture design. Three works created in 2008 among author`s works were selected as the subjects. Those works started with the purpose to express the Korean characteristics from the stage to establish the concepts. For designing the furniture which was differentiated from that in the advanced countries in terms of design and satisfied the emotion and environment of Korea, the basic question "what furniture means for the Korean?" should be investigated and deliberated at first. In that process, we should identify the Korean value existing in our emotion and life and develop it to the modern design. However, it was not easy to identify and interpret the characteristics of Korean design and apply them to the modern works in the process of creating the works. It`s because that the concept of `Korean characteristics` was obscure and vague for the author.
As the methodology, the preliminary research was the investigation and analysis on the Korean characteristics expressed on designs in Korea and the terminology on Korean characteristics. The Korean characteristics were identified from the traditional space with focus on the mental values expressed by traditional space as well as forms in Korean traditional space, spatial structure and relationship with the surrounding environment. On the basis of the Korean characteristics identified, the works were created using three concepts; beauty which is not excessively refined, variable structure, and furniture which creates space. This paper is the thesis on the works so that it presented the creative process of works and final products after establishing the concepts and then summarized the theories on Korean characteristics observed in furniture design.

ABSTRACT
This study aims to present source data for the development of high appropriate-size bra tops for senior women in the manner of developing the size specifications of bra tops for active senior women in their fifties and for older senior women in their sixties in consideration for their different somatotype characteristics and lifestyles depending on age. The results of this study are summarized as follows:
1. An analysis of differences in their somatotype between the two senior groups shows that active seniors and older seniors have a peanut-shaped somatotype featuring the more developed breasts and abdomen than those of young women in their twenties and also sagging and wide breasts, which are more remarkable with older age. It was found that both active seniors and older seniors had a body shape characterized by the leaning-back bust compared to those in their twenties, however older seniors had the more leaning-forward bust than that of active seniors, which suggests that aging has an effect on such the change in body shape.
2. The sizing of bra tops for active seniors was based on at least 5% of high-frequency interval: if the bra cup size is set to 2.5cm, six sizes including 75A, 80A, 80B, 80C, 85A and 85B lead to 52.57% of coverage rate; and, if the cup size is set to 5cm, eight sizes including 75A, 75C, 80A, 80C, 85A, 85C, 90A and 90C have 84.29% of coverage rate.
3. The sizing of bra tops for older seniors was based on at least of high-frequency interval: if the bra cup size is set to 2.5cm, nine sizes including 75A, 80AA, 80A, 80B, 85A, 85B, 85C, 90A and 90B lead to 66.19% of coverage rate; and, if the cup size is set to 5cm, seven sizes including 75A, 80A, 80C, 85A, 85C, 90A and 90C have 79.72% of coverage rate.
Based upon the results above, it is concluded that if the two types of size specifications are selectively applied to target users according to the designs and cup coverage of bra tops, the manufacturers will improve their production efficiency by producing less different sizes of bra tops and thus lowering inventory burdens.

ABSTRACT
Mobile devices like a smart phone or smart pad become a very indispensible thing in our common life by becoming popular it. At the same time, a number of applications with various functions for mobile devices are pouring by developing application fever. it is also a same situation in a location based application. This trend is becoming common already not only map application but also GPS navigation for car. Even as recently as several years ago, Nobody could expect this situation and the navigation system was subordinate to mobile devices. For this reason, the user interface design and user experience design that have been optimized in the car navigation have to be optimized to mobile devices again. The smart phone has to be easy to carry, therefore it has a restriction of size. Especially, the color in the navigation application is very important element visually. Thus, we conducted an applicability comparison of the color system in navigation application for the smart phone through the analysis of the color design of the application and user test.

JEWNR 39(0) 303-312, 2013 |
ABSTRACT
Modern art has rapidly changed with advanced scientific technology and through convergence and consilience with other genres including engineering and humanities. Media art which combines art and scientific technology allows artists to apply advanced technology and a variety of media so that they can create multi-layered sensory environment, in which actively participatory viewers are able to have a new cognitive experience by interacting with works. It represents such an intense immersion beyond virtual reality and illusion. However, the illusion and immersion that new media provide are not direct and physical experiences but extreme senses and they are starting to show inclination to seek intensity of technology instead of aesthetic affect. Therefore, now it`s time to try integrated acceptance of the extremes of opposite opinions on media revolution and pay more attention to aesthetic affect which is a bedrock of humans` emotion and expansion of human-oriented cognitive experience.
This study will provide information on technical choice and steps of implementation in producing `MIXIST`, which is a physical computing-employed interactive installation work. `MIXIST` which is developed with a theme of light is an emotional device. This development isn`t about technology which produces and controls light, but about how humans use light through what steps. By giving psychological meaning to light which generally features physical and non-physical phenomena, light in digital media is given an emotional meaning and plays an important role in changing the quality of works. This concept will help address artists inner world and themes. This study aims to technically examine concrete algorithm and present the process of study which designs not only exterior but technical system.

JEWNR 39(0) 325-336, 2013 |
ABSTRACT
Recently, there has been a growing interest in `men in their forties` who have ample financial resources and have emerged as main consumers in fashion market. The functional clothes products targeting the men in their forties - who experience rapid changes in body type characterized by the increasing obesity and pot belly - require high fitness and functional design and therefore require the pattern design based on the characteristic elements of body type.
In this situation, this study was intended to present the modification scope of pattern design by classifying the body type of the `men in their forties` into different categories based on the characteristics of each body type. For that, the characteristics of body type in the `men in their forties`, which would affect the pattern design, were analyzed to identify the elements of pattern modification, and furthermore, the cluster analysis was conducted based on the characteristics of body type.
The subject of this study was 435 men aged between 40 and 49(data obtained through direct measurement of the 6th size Korea). The analysis was conducted for 42 items of direct measurements, 33 index value items for height and chest circumference, and 4 flatness items of circumference.
From the analysis and cluster analysis based on aforesaid items, the following conclusion was drawn:
First, 5 elements were identified from the element analysis of direct measurement items. The first element was the size element. The second element was the height element of the lower half of body. The third element was the length element of upper half of body. The fourth element was the shoulder size element, and the fifth element was the hip length element.
Second, the element analysis was conducted using the chest circumference index value for application of design variables. As a result, the first element was the shape of lower half of body. The second element was the shape of abdomen area, and the third element was the upper body thick element.
Third, the element analysis was conducted using the height index value for setting the vertical ratio of design. Resultantly, the first element was the shape of shoulder. The second element was the shoulder size. The third element was the arm length. The fourth element was the crotch length, and the fifth element was the length of the upper half of body.
Fourth, a total of 3 types were identified from cluster analysis based on element scores of direct measurement items. Type 1 was found to be the body type which was the most slender with long lower half of body, short upper half of body and broad shoulder. Type 2 was the body type which was the most obese with short lower half of body, short hip length and arm length. Type 3 was the body type with intermediate circumference, short lower half of body, long hip length, and narrow shoulder.
Fifth, based on the cluster analysis based on element scores for chest circumference index value, Type 1 was the body type with thick lower half of body but was found to be the most slender body type. Type 2 had moderate degree of upper body thick but was the body type with thick lower half of body and protruded belly. Type 3 was the body type which upper body was the most thick but was found to have relatively thin lower half of body and moderately protruded belly.
Sixth, based on the cluster analysis based on element scores for height index value, Type 1 was the body type with long upper half of body and arms, narrow and drooping shoulders. Type 2 was the body type with short upper half of body and arm and long crotch length. Type 3 was the body type with broad and rising shoulder, long upper half of body and arm, and short crotch length. Type 4 was the body type with long upper half of body, long arm, and long crotch length.
The results above provide basic data for standardizing the pattern modification elements and defining the pattern modification scope for customized automated design of clothes patterns, thereby contributing to the automation of functional clothes design that requires high fitness.

JEWNR 39(0) 337-346, 2013 |
ABSTRACT
The modern fashion reflects on the culture of a country. Many methods have been carried out to inherit and develop distinct images for each country. The purpose of this research is to patternize the traditional floral-patterned lattice by utilizing formative features of lotus and peony blossom with CAD.
The study suggests application of relief fashion design on monotonous clothing surfaces. When the floral patterns became three-dimensional and commercialized as a textile design, the work of art took form in a variety of expressive ways.
Through this research, globalization of Korean tradition and culture will commence when nation`s traditional image is applied to the work of design. In this aspect, the aim of the research is to establish the development of creativity that exists in unique Korean culture.
