Research on social design as an economic concept

ABSTRACT
Developed material civilization and an information-oriented society today are originated mainly from economical mass production method moved from the Industrial Revolution and development of science technology moved from capital accumulation. In the reverse side of this development, there have been an economic logic between profit acquisition of corporation and consumers who only pursue reasonable consumption by sacrificing definite resources of the Earth to indefinite economic development logic. The economic conception is a core factor of the industrial development on the basis of reasonable rationalism, but it is undeniable that it has caused a few social problems such as environment destruction, humanity neglect, income inequality, and loss of consumes` sovereignty in the reverse side. Recently, this reasonable economic logic has been embraced as a cause of social inequality and this fact affects designs and designers who played a role of inducing forms of human society and life style. Design doesn`t stay in reality of economic logic, but it has a function of lingual expression and increasingly, it affects our thoughts and behaviors. Therefore, we should see design from a systematic point of view that it affects social structure based on various functions for social structures of humans as a vehicle of recognition and emotion field of ours. The consciousness that human structure can be changed through design requires a new point of view and counterplan. While design played a spearhead of economic logic in the past, social functions and roles in order to make a sustainable society will be more important in the future. In this study, I took a look a social function of design, which its importance is getting embraced, based on roles of social design a nd a relation with ethical consumers. This study is designed to suggest the fact that solutions of approaching methods of environment friendly that was hard to achieve even with our will can ben found in setting a new relationship between corporations and consumers and the future economy logic should be recognized as a broad concept including profit pursue, social responsibility and roles.
Through this study, it is suggested that it is more economically efficient for the concept of social design, which was believed to be low efficient and less economical in the past, to be a practical tool of ethical life style through creative consumptions to consumers and corporations accomplishing social responsibility. This implies that the roles of design and designers should be re-defined for revitalizing the recovered economy through social design and entering sustainable society ultimately.

The Influence of Perception Ability for the Aged on the Usability of Digital Products - Focused on Feedback and Feedforward -

ABSTRACT
We have successfully digitalized various aspects of our lives for greater convenience. Unfortunately, the elderly are often not the beneficiary of digitalization. Older people experience sensitivity loss and thus cognitive decline. To share the benefit of digitalization with the elderly, we need to develop products that understand the challenges of aging. The study intends to identify the ways to improve the usability of digital products for elderly users, with particular emphasis on feedback and feed-forward. To accomplish the purpose, this article adopts a context-focused approach that focuses on interview and participatory observation, rather than a quantitative approach that focuses on the size of shape and sound. Since the elderly have low usability as a result of sensitivity loss and cognitive decline, the subjects are observed in a holistic manner. Four different digital products are used for the observations. Based on the observations, this study 1) evaluates the performance of different feedback and feedforward and 2) analyzes the relationship between performance and issues of aging and identify the characteristics of the most effective feedback and feedforward.

ABSTRACT
Having the technology of digital restoration of cultural heritage advanced, it is possible to explore cultural heritage in virtual environment with vivid graphic images and rich stereo sound. For more realistic virtual environment, touching the virtual objects is important event that should be considered when building a virtual world of cultural heritage. This paper investigates the use of a haptic feedback device to interact with virtual Korean traditional instruments, called Sa-mool, in Buddhist temple and provide the user with tactile cues during playing the instruments and touching the objects. In the research, the data of degree of smoothness, friction, and hardness from Korean traditional building material-stone, wood, and leather have been collected and normalized as Korean cultural heritage haptic interface. Those data are presented as an application of playing 4 percussion Korean Buddhist temple instruments, Sa-mool(temple drum, Buddhist temple bell, wooden fish, cloud shaped gong), and users can play the instruments, which are usually not open to public, with haptic device while walking through the virtual Keum-san-sa, old Korean Buddhist temple in Gimje-city, Jeonbuk, Korea.

Recently using a computer, video media and digital media technology to the development of the visual design field has undergone more fundamental changes. Digital media is a human ball sensational mechanism more active and human activities and enjoy extends a space.
The advent of media aesthetics of technology as the new way of highlighting the role of design in order to interpret the new aesthetics of access requirements.
Digital media design concept expansion as well as a variety of fields and areas to cross the boundary interchangeably when Visual communication design to our new value and the new paradigm of digital media are required. Arts and Humanities, social sciences, science and technology, such as the study area slated for the association between the Visual communication design of a new era with a variety of research on the trends continue, but you should expect the road.
This research is a philosophical, theoretical background and social events through media change the aesthetics of the media based on the concept of emotional perception theory as the medium of deliberate and aesthetics, such features are reflected in the field of Visual design multi fusion to portray the attributes through studying the case analysis.

A Study on the Necessity of Structuring of Unified Sign System of Incheon Metropolitan

"The twenty-first century is the period of culture. Sign design is an important cultural method which express the identity of city that accommodate people safely in the space and facility. Also, Sign System Design executes sign systematically that makes beautiful and pleasant environment of urban space. Currently, the importance of necessity is required of Sign System Design of Incheon due to various international events and new urban project of Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority. This study approaches the sign design of Incheon Metropolitan systematic and design method which improves urban environment and quality of citizens` life. Thus, the expression could be possible by some feature and composition through the principles of sign design.
Definitely, the study of theoretical examination and design element of letters, color, pictogram, and the introduction of Universal Design for international aging period.
And I introduced predeveloped utilizing cases by foreign and domestic sign design current investigation and analysis. In addition, I suggest the necessity of Incheon Metropolitan Unified Sign System Design structuring by comprehensive analysis of investigating contents, and I try to suggest basic materials on the importance and method of Sign System. Therefore, this study will contribute to make the positive urban image with safe and easy way for foreigners. I hope this Sign System Design will contribute the urban identity establishment of International Incheon Metropolitan, and inspire lively spirit of urban space."

A Study on Furniture Design which are Creating Cognitive Territoriality in Spatial Furniture - Focused on Author`s Work < Stool with Partition 1,2,3 > -

ABSTRACT
This study attempted to discuss the features of furniture design forming the cognitive territoriality by selecting the furniture from design history and author`s work titled < Stool with Partition 1,2,3 > as the subjects. The cognitive territoriality means the territoriality that enables the visual and emotional division of space and independent use of space without using the architectural elements in the space. This study applied the cognitive territoriality as the concept against the physical territoriality.
As the methodology, the physical territoriality and cognitive territoriality were compared for theoretic examination. The furniture created by Charles Rennie Mackintosh(1868-1928), Frank Llyod Wright(1867-1959), and Zaha Hadid(1950- ) were investigated as the cases forming the cognitive territoriality in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 analyzed author`s works in accordance with the development and production process around the concept of works.
The concepts of these works were fragmented into furniture as the medium of expression, pursuing the popularization of arts creating the furniture with soft edges, and comfortable and natural beauty. The results from the formative, structural and functional analyses on the works were explained as the organic and indeterminate formation, variable structure, and function to sensibly divide the space.

The basic study on the need of persuasive strategy in audio-visual education - Centering around the traffic safety education using video media -

ABSTRACT
The audio-visual textbooks of traffic safety education need the change given ordinary video contents are hard to attract the attention because extraordinary contents are too many in the overflowing of information. The study researched the notion and feature of audio-visual education and mental hygiene film which was the originator of audio-visual education to add the persuasive power to the audio-visual textbooks for traffic safety education and compared Korean traffic safety education using video media with American one and psychological elements as a persuasive strategy of audio-visual education. And it surveyed whether the persuasive strategy was needed to audio-visual textbooks for traffic safety education by researching the sample set which consisted of different ages. It found the measure of boosting adherence necessary and the emotional persuasive strategy epoch-making. However, there were problems such as low educational satisfaction, differences in recognition of education recipients by age. And recipients preferred good sense of audio-visual textbooks rather than fear ones. These results have to be importantly considered in making audio-visual textbooks for traffic safety education.

Emotional Logotype Effects from a concept of Digital Literacy using Special Logo based on Users` Viewpoint

ABSTRACT
Emotional Logotype is a combination of typography and image in portal website, one of digital media. It works as another medium for information recognition, and enables users to obtain new information. This study views Emotional logotype from point of digital literacy.
This study surveyed in order to find out the type and content of information that users obtain and the association between brand awareness, credibility, interest, user loyalty of the portal website. The results show that Emotional logotype is conclusively effective from a concept of Digital literacy in that users response positively with raised awareness and interest due to emotional logotype, and it is also meaningful considering user loyalty in terms of users` intent to revisit.
