A Study of an Eco-Unified Sign as Public Design in Paju City

ABSTRACT
These days, local autonomous entities of each city including the Government are pouring their efforts into Public Design. The possibility of Public Design could be immense in that it can inspire identity and life force into a city and also contribute to the creation of local culture. Public Design should take the course with the appearance by the public and for the public, and thus should go toward the direction of fulfilling a unified environment with public efficiency and sustainable possibility. Particularly, it should be a solution to a promising future appearance of mankind; in such context, Eco-Design will be functioning as a major element in Public Design. This dissertation puts emphasis on the ethical, social responsibility of Public Design and considers the role of Eco-Design in Public Design to create a sustainable, positive city image. In addition, this research set up a city identity through the analysis of the selected Paju City as a research subject area, and as research results, proposes a unified sign for Paju City.

ABSTRACT
There needs to be a paradigm of evacuation and integration in current public design, which means that public design assumes the concept as a complex body executing a variety of functions, not a design of a simple objet. Thus, the design of a manhole as unified information design in Paju City put its focus on not only the execution of its original function & design-based research but also on the manifestation of the identity of Paju City as an informative objet. This study derived an accurate City identity by conducting a survey the developmental background for Paju city from 1995 until 2007, based on which this study fused the concept of unified information design into the design of a manhole in Paju city. Together with this, it is expected that the directivity of design for Paju City and expansion of design realm could be realized from this day onward.

Relationship with Website Credibility and Visual Components of Web Interface Design

ABSTRACT
This study aims to prove the effects of visual elements of the Web interface toward credibility perception of Web information. At first, to enhance knowledge about credibility, key terms relating to the credibility was defined as trustworthiness, expertness, attractiveness and closeness. At second, developed educational and shopping sites was modified in color, graphic and type. And models of a visual credibility through simulated web pages for the online education site and online shopping site was tested. The findings of this study reveal that various design elements that tend to influence user credibility assessments. Especially, for the online education site, `type` is most important factor among other visual elements and for the online shopping site, `graphic` is most important. This study lays the groundwork for further research into the visual elements that affect Web credibility.

ABSTRACT
Disney of the US established a big empire of animation characters with Mickey Mouse and Bandai of Japan developed its current position with Gundam. These two subjects are regarded as brands and contents representing those countries world-wide by overcoming that they are only just characters. There are many contents that can be regarded as the icon or cultural heritage re presenting each country by anyone when we think about Eiffel Tower of France, Spinks of Egypt, the Statue of Liberty of the US as well as those animation characters. There are many things to be proud of inter nationally in Korea as well but it seems that Korea has lost major connections in making cultural heritages into contents by going through many turbulent times in a very short time compared to our long history. Also, it is really sad that the public becoming aware of the meaning an d the identity of the `1st National Treasure Namdaemoon` only after it was destroyed by fire recently which had been always there keeping its place for more than 600 years. There are many activities to strengthen cultural content industries in Korea since it is the time when the value of potential power of the culture is valued higher as the country is more advanced. Robot Taekwon V, the subject of this study, is a unique robot character designed for the first time in Korea by the director Kim Chung Ki in 1976. It once received un rivaled support and recognized its superiority as an unique robot character but continued development and evolution and the evaluation of its unique design and the move to establish public support were almost severed due to limited views and criticisms by national experts and the public on plagiarism that it is the second only that copied Mazinga Z, a Japanese animation at the same time. Recently, there are various efforts and attempt to increase the value of Robot Taekwon V as a member of representing national cultural contents which has been rediscovered right before its existing value was lost. Therefore, this study analyzed standardized shape elements for developing the continuously evolution and development of the shape of Taekwon V by assigning the meaning of unique robot design through reestablishing the analysis and meaning on the shapes of Taekwon V. Also, it aims to present academic proofs for re-evaluating the unique identity of Robot Tae kwon V and its use as a cultural content.

ABSTRACT
The local agricultural produce packaging of own competitiveness shall be formed. Regional brands and packaging materials to build their own structure and the development of value added by forming an image representative will be able to improve. In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture in 2007, researchers saw eight excellent selection of a brand of rice substantial 30`s hierarchy consumers buy rice directly to a survey conducted by 93 people in the survey. The first, conducted by frequency analysis, brand positioning on the road indicated by the frequency distribution of the image. As a result, rice is the overall assessment level is four higher side of image positioning. In addition, important image as a consumer brand positioning rice was also investigated. Secondly, the factor analysis of the results conducted by 4-5 factors. Separated by positioning capabilities and sensitivity to the nature of each factor charge. Overall, the respondents for each brand of rice, and the group divided by factors would conduct marketing, design, and the segmentation of limited resources because they can focus on the low-cost, high-efficiency target it can bring.

Representation by Tactual Perception and Propensity to Recognize in Tactual Pictogram - Focusing on Postnatally Blind People -

ABSTRACT
Pictogram is a field of language and literature, intended to remove the obstacle of language and literature between countries and enable smooth communication through written pictures of words or their sounds. It is designed to enable communication between people from every class as well as countries and regions. The use of pictographic design has been limited to ordinary and average people with physical and metal functions and not available to innately and postnatally disabled people. In accordance with the law enacted to promote and protect the convenience of blind people, braille signs marked with braille and embossed types or lines or tactual perception sign are installed in major public facilities in Korea to help their independent walking. However, unified pictogram system is not prepared for those facilities. As each installer is engraving different types of pictogram only for normal people, some blind people are not able to perceive or likely to misunderstand them. This study is intended to find blind people`s difficulties in having access to information and study tactual pictogram which enables communication between ordinary people and blind people based on the physical property of tactual perception.

Simulation of Efficient Virtual Space using 3D Holography

ABSTRACT
The life of mankind is rapidly changing for various digital technologies, and is building another world. Among them, the world of virtual reality able to replace the real world will be positioned as a strong paradigm of the new age. The three-dimensional images are the key among those methods in realizing the virtual reality and have been studied in various ways, but the excellent reproducing abilities and 3D feelings of holography have been noticed. The various expressions are possible and the images are clean in a manner with no glass in the holography with the characteristics of optics, enabling to have any exchange with the best harmony. Items necessary for supplements upon the generalization of holography are suggested by defining it to be the most suitable for the virtual reality for such characteristics and producing a prototype to apply an intermediate reality where the reality and virtuality coexist. The holography is just at its starting stage. It seems that a lot of efforts and time might be required up to its popularization, and it is necessary to continuously have the research and development for it.

Research on Henry Beck as information designer

ABSTRACT
Advancement of public transportation and design of route map does not exist without necessarily. As challenging as new area, Henry Beck served 30 years for improvement of subway route map of London. Among them, his first design announced in 1933 was regarded as important instance of information design was reserved as history list till today. Contextual concept can be classified into 2 categories if dividing conceptual type (visual) and formal (non-visual) concept of Henry Beck`s subway routing map. In the first, he concentrated on linear and serial type style rather than geographical positioned centric existed routing map. He accomplished central complexity by enlarging and distorting the centric position approached by fisheye lens style. On survey of formal concept, we can say rule and coherence type based on grid system, low character of alphabets, the same distance among the station, diagonal line of 45 or vertical line of 90, horizontal line and rounded angle. We can see some information designers who can express effective design ways of various and complex information in the history. Roughly, they accomplished easy ways by diagramed and graph expression of concept of time and amount. As information designer, Henry Beck designed London subway routing map excellently the concept of space and time. The researcher has the aims on the improvement of Seoul subway routing map by studying the concept and design of Henry Beck`s London subway routing map and furthermore wishes the cornerstone of designing public traffic(subway, railway, bus, ship, airway etc) organization system of my country Korea.

ABSTRACT
For the last 170 years photography have been widely discussed in the field of art generating countless aesthetic debates. It has acquired its status as a new media from the perspective of objective reality, confronting the traditional painting. It has done its function of representing the reality based on reproduction technology. In the age of digital reproduction, however, it needs to be more widely discussed. One of the most important features of digital photography would be easier image transformation. Image transformation itself is not a new idea, of course. It has been used as a way of expressing the artist`s ideas or political propaganda. In the era of digital reproduction, however, it heads into new directions. First, its easier manipulation leads to much images variability. In addition, since the subjects of image production have varied, objectivity of photography can not be trusted. Now photography boldly reveal the falsehood and relish immeasurable imagination and the pleasure of transformation. Thanks to the Internet, it can also communicate with innumerable viewers.

An Analysis of Research Trends on the Ubiquitous Home Design

ABSTRACT
The Purpose of this study was to analyze of research trends on the ubiquitous home design, found out research streaming and to suggest data bases for good ubiquitous home design. For this study, contents analysis was conducted. Articles of four academic journals published from 2000 to 2007 were units of analysis. The results were as followed. The first, main research targets were normal people, but researches for elderly and the disabled will be needed. The second, research target spaces were not only home but also silver-town, office, hospital, digital furniture, etc. The third, research methods were contents analysis, case study and survey. The forth, research contents were to propose service(system), to grasp the user`s need and to propose space composition. The fifth, the ubiquitous home services were security, convenience, comfortableness, entertainment, health, information, sociality and economic feasibility. Finally, the research trend of ubiquitous home was the early stage until now on. To suggest good design for ubiquitous home, it will be needed more researches of ubiquitous home services and system to suit for wide range of users with different demand and environmental condition.
